Can't start convos by entering @member-name

In order to start a conversation I have to select a member from his/her icon and choose "start conversation" from the options. I can't start a convo with more than one member at a time because no matter how carefully I add @(name), I get an error message telling me the member could not be found...

Tyvek (&/or other house wrap) as Hoop Coop Cover?

I'm looking to build a hog panel hoop coop. I'm trying to come up with a durable cover for it. What do you all think of using a Tyvek-type wrap? Is it tough enough? I do know the tarps we buy here & on-line (including the pricey ones) seem to turn to fragments in the sun with distressing speed...

Investigating Like button taking a long time after ipad update

My ipad just updated. The "like" function has changed... it's really balky and I can no longer just hit like for a thumbs up--I have to choose a reaction. It takes several seconds and then I have to tap off to the side to get the last pop-up image to go away.

    Drake to Duck Ratio

I'm thinking about getting some ducklings this spring. Appleyards maybe, and maybe at some point Muscovies. I want the Appleyards for eggs and possibly meat. Can anyone give me some guidance as to the preferred duck to drake ratio? I realize they're all different, but in your experience, what...

    Pullet has bloody vent, lethargic

I found one of my 8 month old Buckeye pullets huddled in the nesting box this morning. Her bottom is bloody in and around the vent. I’ve been getting a light brown blood-smeared small-medium egg every couple/three days for 6-8 weeks. I figured somebody must have a tight canal and it would...

    Brutalized pullet pooped out... something...

Day before yesterday I caught a jenny pecking at an unresisting BCM pullet. I snatched her up and relocated her to the garage, washed her ouchies and (covering her eyes with a cotton rag) sprayed her little head with Blukote. I made her some electrolytes and fed her around two ounces with a...

Foamy discharge gluing drake’s eyes shut

One of my four little Welshie drakes is having eye issues. A couple of days ago I noticed he wasn’t following his buddies into the tractor at bedtime. He was sitting in the grass, just rocking—mostly rocking forward. I picked him up and looked him over. I couldn’t feel his crop. No poopy vent...

    Cockerels of Uncertain Heritage

I bought an incubator, so I ordered eggs on e-bay to attempt hatching. It took the post office a couple extra days to deliver them (of course). All seven (of twenty) that started developing for me ended up hatching, so overall I thought it was a good result. I was only expecting to receive...

    American Buff Geese... sexing

I have four American Buff geese... bought them at Runnings three days old on April 4, so presently about four months old. I’m supposed to have three geese and one gander. Short of sitting on them and squinting at unfamiliar bits whilst fending off flailing flippers, is there any way to tell at...

    CX dying like flies

My 3 wk old CX chicks are dying at a rate of 1 a day. One morning I found two stiff little corpses. I ordered them through the feed store—maybe that was a mistake. So far I’ve lost six. I have them in a Suskovich tractor. This is a photo of it filled with Color Yield meaties earlier. There are 2...

    Lola

I’m asking about the redhead, far right. She hatched from among some “barnyard mix” eggs I bought on e-bay to try out my new (first) incubator. I think she’s hilarious and cute as can be, but I have no idea what she is other than a domestic chicken pullet. Any ideas? I just got another shot of...

Wing tips not held in place

Hi everyone, I have 4 American Buff geese/goslings, about 7 weeks old there are supposed to be 3 geese and a gander... anyway, that’s what I paid for and I assume it’s right. I noticed today that one of them seems to be having trouble keeping its wing tips properly folded. The tips drop down...

    Incubating Eggs in Horizontal Position

I’ve been shopping for an incubator and would rather not go too much over $200 for now. I think I’ve settled on one, but egg position is worrying me. The egg turner included with the Hovabator 1588 (Amazon) doesn’t use egg cups. You lay the eggs in, on their sides, and the rails (kind of a grid...

    Duck Questions

I’m thinking about maybe getting some ducks next spring. The two breeds I’m most interested in (based on reading the reviews here) are Muskovies (for meat) and Khaki Campbells (for eggs). We live on 12 acres way out in the boonies—our place is surrounded by US Forest “Service” land and it’s...

    Free range chicken behavior questions

We live on 12 acres with no neighbors within several miles. We’re fenced in with barbed wire to keep out free range cattle grazing US Forest land so basically no neighbors, but no effective chicken containment fencing either. We’re far from major roads and fairly far from our gravel access road...

    Hello from Western South Dakota

This spring I started thinking about chickens. I don’t know why. I just did. I’ve been thinking about them and reading and watching videos and pondering and vacillating and a couple of weeks ago I finally decided I would go for it, even this late in the year. Ever since, I’ve been building a...
