I used to use a second hygrometer and it was not a good idea since I kept fiddling with temp/humidity. Tossed it and dry hatched, very successful for me. Bantams on this hatch were 100%! With my olives, I only had 3 not hatch and they were the porous eggs, chicks looked shrink wrapped and fully...
What are the chances of creating sexable chicks from a partridge hen under solid male? Just wondering about the random genetic trivia y’all are so good at! Moms are BC1 Olive Eggers from a BCM dad and bred back to a BCM. I noticed some chicks have solid chipmunk stripes vs a dashed line
Welcome!!! Hopefully they’ll start turning up as the weather improves. I know many hatcheries don’t offer bantams before March or April. Definitely don’t suggest buying any this early as well… It’s so sad losing them! We had much better results when I waited for summer 💕
This wee love pipped and didn’t progress at all, but I found some interesting things and was hoping for insight if anyone had some!
External pip, but the membrane didn’t look pierced at all when I inspected closer. I wish I’d remembered to see if it was upside down in the egg, I distinctly...
With don’t have much of a pecking order with the size of our flock luckily 🤞🏼 She was so thrilled to be out! Prefab for the day and then I let her back out to the yard right before evening since she still hadn’t laid, I didn’t want to deal with my broody Betty pooping in the good nest boxes if...
It definitely looks so much better than the “mild” one that ended up taking my Penny. Thank you so much for the help! I’ve popped her in the prefab today. She was so excited to get outside again! Almost couldn’t hold onto her lol
It’s been an amazing incubator! Hold temp really well, I’ve had an increase in hatch for sure. First of this years hatch will be popping out in less than a week 🎉
Still waiting on an egg… She hasn’t had food til this afternoon and I’ve given her soldier fly mixed with it. Hoping to see some better looking poops with food in her system. They look like this vs the watery but more white over hydrated poos. I’ll try to get a pic of a fresh one with her new...
I really think so. I refuse to have aggressive roos in our flock, we have 8-9 roos most times. Our Polish roos were cuddled from a young age and turned out awful, as were their chicks. My nice roos make nice babies, regardless of handling
Thanks! Nothing similar there (luckily?). She’s getting bored in the house and still looks perfectly normal at the vent, but I’m still waiting for her to lay before putting her back outside just in case
My porcelain D’Uccle is the sweetest little guy. He’s 2 years old and has never had a mean bone in his body. I haven’t had time to handle him for a while, but he’s just a little timid now
My WTB cross eggs were hit and miss with fertility too! I’ve always had 100% fertility and was very disappointed. We had a huge flock change up and our head roo is now a bantam. We have some lovely cockerels that aren’t being accepted by the mature hens still. Our younger pullets in the same age...
