    Annabelles Page

My husband, two daughters (2 1/2 and 3 weeks), and I live on a small farm in southwest Virginia. Our home is a beloved sanctuary and a continual work in progress-I don't think it will ever be finished in our eyes and we love that. We have one dog, three cats and 22 spoiled chickens. 3 buff...

    Honking chicken

My buff brahma honks so loudly I thought she was choking the first time she did it. Now I am used to it, some of them have very unique voices and use certain sounds the others don't. We have one partridge cochin that my husband calls Barbra Steisand because she is so dramatic and loud.

Beautiful birds, we have 5 week old buffs and they are so good natured. You make me wish I'd gotten some darks too!!

    Answer from Purina

Thanks for posting that. Do you know if larger breed chicks need to be started on Flock Raiser since it has more protein? The back of my Purina bag says I should be feeding Start & Grow to my small to medium breeds and Flock Raiser to my medium to large breeds. Since I have both small and...

    Yellow Legged Buff Orpington?

So they are poor quality Orpingtons, not buff rocks? I guess that makes sense, they are barely yellow, but not at all pink. Well, they are healthy and happy so I'm not worried about it, I just hope they lay well.

    Yellow Legged Buff Orpington?

Well I guess I have buff rocks, I ordered Orpingtons, but these have very pale yellow legs. Mine are 5 weeks, 2 are pullets for sure but the third (Maggie) has a much larger and more red comb and wattles. Also Maggie has darker feathers that are not as fluffy as her sisters. I hope she is a...

    Anyone use Purina's SunFresh feed?

gritsar-glad you found a closer store for your feed, if you would post Purina's reply I'd appreciate it, don't want to bog them down with another email. My first instinct is to err on the side of more protein for the brahmas and cochins, I just don't want to mess the little ones up.

    Anyone use Purina's SunFresh feed?

I don't know if this question should be in a separate thread, but I was wondering if I should be feeding Flock Raiser instead of the Start & Grow which I am using now for my 5 week olds. When looking at the Purina website it says Start & Grow for small to medium breeds and Flock Raiser for...

    Newbie with sick chick...

She pulled through! She looks very hung-over and wobbly, but she shuffled over to the waterer and drank by herself this morning before I left the house. I will pick up some Poly-Vi-Sol vitamins while I am out and continue feeding softened food when I get home. Thanks for your replies, I was...

    Newbie with sick chick...

Thanks, I just checked on her one last time before going to bed, she didn't even open her eyes and was pretty much limp, did drink a little water though. I know 1 out of 22 is not bad, it just worries me not to know what happened. The others seem fine so far, I guess I will see in the morning...

    Newbie with sick chick...

We received 22 chicks from Ideal on the 3rd of April, all of them have thrived until this morning. One of my standard partridge cochins was standing all by herself this morning looking ill, she is now not quite 3 weeks old. I threw in a small handful of hulled, organic sunflower seeds and a...
