No problem! Here's a saddle air cell, see how it comes down the side of the egg like that? http://cdn.backyardchickens.com/8/8e/186x400px-LL-8e524a4e_image.jpeg
It's not uncommon in shipped eggs, and you can still hatch them, you just need to be sure your humidity is on point. Weighing them is...
Were these shipped eggs? Is it possible what you're seeing is a case of saddle air cells? If the air cells are truly taking up 50% of the egg then that's not good and an indicator of humidity being very low. What day are your eggs on? Can you post pictures of the air cells?
That's Cupcake, a welsh harlequin duckling that jumped the gun and tried to hatch before her yolk was absorbed at all. What I did was cut the corner off a Ziploc bag, push her back into her shell, wrapped a wet paper towel around the shell to provide moisture, and put the whole thing in the bag...
Okay, here are those guinea candling pictures I promised. Had to wait for them to be far enough along to actually see something! These are on Day 6. I also have a batch on Day 20 but the camera can't pick up the washed out veining on those.
Also, here is my special egg. We had an accident...
Well, I just locked down my last batch due in May, 11 Isabelle leghorns and three ayam cemanis. Of course I already have a million eggs due in June, lol. Next batch after this one hatches June 4th.
Don't give up on it! I did something similar, only I split the egg shell right around the middle accidentally with one of the bars in my Brinsea. Patched it with tape. It hatched just fine a few days later :)
If I could get an IB pied blackshoulder, that would be my 'dream' bird. But the three I have in will most likely all hatch just IB. They could be split to white or cameo though. I'll keep them either way, IB is actually my favorite color in peafowl :)
I do mine at six or seven days and I can usually make out something, but they're harder to see in than chicken eggs so don't toss them at seven days if you don't see anything yet!
I dunno if I would call them mellow, but they're not high strung. They got along fine with my silkies when I had them together. Just so you know, my GFF line birds are bigger than silkies, but they're not a large breed by any stretch. Average size is around five pounds.
Not to tempt you, but...
Sorry, the breed is just gorgeous, and, you know, any excuse to share pictures :P
Interestingly enough I do believe bantam ayam cemanis exist, I've seen pictures, they're just extremely rare and I don't think in the US yet. But the breed isn't very big to begin...
My peafowl eggs came in :weee They all made it! Need to check their air cells still but they're resting at the moment, I'll be popping them into the incubator tomorrow. So I guess that means if there's a June hatch-a-long I'll be in that one too, lol.
