I remember when bike helmets first became a thing. I was already grown by then. I think I may have been in college when I got my first one.
As a kid we rode everywhere but were supposed to be home by dark.

I kept slugs until one slug got really big and it turned out he had eaten all the other slugs. After that I was supposed to keep all critters outdoors, so I built a miniature city for the ants. I think they appreciated it!
Similar approach - you can use a kitchen colander and look at the shadow created in the holes - I got some cool pics of that last time.
Also, look at reflection in water - fill a large feed bowl and let it settle so it is still and then watch it in there. I did that too and it was pretty good.
I think we called the other kind rocking horses - I always wanted one but never got one.
So I had the broomstick kind, and the kind outside grocery stores that were mechanical and would ride for a few minutes on a coin in slot basis.
Oh you reminded me of hobby horses.
Broomstick and one of dad’s old socks stuffed with rags and ears and eyes stitched on.
Lord knows why we found it such fun to gallop around on those things - but we did!
I know I say this a lot on this thread but of course I still have many at home and I still keep lots of things in them.
They are good little storage containers!
