Aren't they tiny lil creatures.
I have a white blacktail that's gone broody, but I've got too many chicks already. Tried to break her off the nest, but she's persistent .
I continue collecting their eggs until one or more of the hens goes broody. I can usually identify the eggs with my hens, and take her eggs out of the refrigerator, and put them under her. About 19 days later I'll get a hatch.
11 eggs is a bit too many for my hens. I don't put more than 6...
As described above. Very Short legs is Ideal. Wing Tips touching the ground . When standing; their tail feathers are erect as is their head, thus forming a ' U ' shape conformation of their backs. A ' V ' shape is not desirable. These are True Bantams.
Yes; in two more weeks, some of the roos will begin to crow. The more familiar you become with raising bantams, you'll notice certain feathering, conformation, comb and wattle growth are different between pullets and roos.
Hello SpecialHen: Yeah; the Lavender takes some cross breeding to accomplish the desired color, and that puts them in the 'Rare' category. I've never purchased eggs, but have read, that once delivered, let them set still for a few days for all the air bubbles to settle back into one air space.
An even 3 dozen would be better. Better chance of getting a few pullets that way. For some odd reason, I always get more cockerels than pullets. Out of 10 japs I purchased, only 3 were pullets.
Mine are independent. Only had one rooster that was extra friendly. Always would hop up on my lap w/o any encouragement. I gave him away, as I had two other roos I wanted for my breeding stock. Only reason for not keeping him, is he had too many white feathers in his black tail.
I'm sure if...
Kind of like. Hey; if I don't hurry to the scratch grain being scattered on the ground, I won't get any, and here they come like a covey of quail.
Generally they don't get over 4' in the air for less than 50 feet.
Now if something really terrified them they could probably do much more than...
Sorry; I don't know of any Oregon poultry breeders.
I especially like the White Japanese Black Tails . Each one has its own personality. They are flighty. A feature I like, but they only fly when they come to feed, or something spooks them out in the yard, and they only fly towards the safety...
I have no idea. I purchased 10 chicks from Cackle Hatchery in the summer of 2013, and only got 3 pullets. So, now I'm hatching eggs from selected hens, and roos, to see which hatch-lings I prefer.
Finally , with the temperature dropping I remembered to get a PIC of all the chicks in the Coop. The 3 babies are in the middle of the roost. Can you find the 4 older adolescents ?
Finally; all my white jap black tail chicks are now going into the coop at night. 4 made the change 6 weeks ago, and 3 started yesterday. That makes 11 all total with a Roo, a hen , and the two mamma's. All seven of the little one snuggled up side by side tonight.
