Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

Different keeping circumstances and the relationship between the males is likely to produce different results.

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

I've posted hundreds of pictures on this thread from the tribes in Catalonia; some of the luckiest chickens in the world with regard to freedom and care. Unfortunately the overwhelming majority of chickens don't live like that and don't look like the lovely chickens in the pictures on this...

I don't think he will have forgotton you Bob. Things have changed though. He's the boss now and he's got responsibilities, not to mention his dignity to think of.

I'm afraid "according to the best of your knowledge" still won't hack it, especially on BYC where opinion rules and facts, if unsuportive of the posters argument, are inconvenient.:p

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

It's not something that is in my mind; it's a fact. Read just about any well informed paper on chickens and it will tell you much the same. Chickens dust bath to soak up the oil they secrete that conditons their feathers and skin...

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

This is going to be my last post on this thread. I may post on my Ex Batts thread for a while I expect if I can keep the chat about other topics off it which seems doubtful. I’ve seen what chickens can be from the years I lived with them in Catalonia. The things I’ve seen are spread all over...

Amprolium works pretty quickly assuming you give the correct dose. You should see some improvement with 12 hours if the probllem is coccidiosis.

They don't die if they can forage for what they believe they need. If they can't then yes, you may have to help them by providing foodstuffs that they will eat.

Yeah, don't feed them scratch grain are my words of wisdom. There is an almost endless list of things chickens will eat that are far better for them than scratch grains or mealy worms. Today for example I'll be taking chopped cabbage, a handful of good quality cracked corn and some cooked...

Why didn't you let her stay with her friends if that is where she wanted to be?

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

I stay out with the Ex Batts. They are not, and their keeping arrangements are not, suitable for free ranging. We hardly have any day time predators, perhaps a fox getting hungry enough to hunt in daylight, or a Kite that just has a go. In Catalonia I made a decision to free range all the...

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

I took the allotment chicken stories and pictures out of Bob's thread and made my own thread partly out of consideration for Bob and those who post here.

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

I know somewhere you do understand Ribh because of something you wrote earlier in this thread when I rather bluntly pointed out a series of events that happened at Fluffy Butt Acres. I can't find the post atm, but you pointed out that for me it was about what happened to the chickens while most...

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

I'm not telling people how they should feel. I'm trying to explain why those sorry for your loss messages are just something people say. They don't actually mean anything. It's one of those sayings like "have a nice day". The vast majority of people who say "have a nice day" couldn't give a...

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

Chickens are tropical and sub tropical creatures. The temperature ranges they find comfortable can be estimated by where they thrive and their original natural habitat. Asian jungle temperatures roughly range from 20 centigrade to 35 centigrade. I know people will tell you that their chickens...

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

I miss many of the chickens that I've known but all around us other creatures around us are dying and we don't grieve for them it seems. There is something about the percieved ownership of a creature that makes a difference to our viiew of death is my belief. As I've said before I've never...

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

I've known over 100 chickens most of which are now dead. I don't have a single bad memory of any of them. I like to remember them. It often seems to me that people take some kind of affront when death takes one of their chickens. It's like something has stolen something they own and not only do...
