The only other thing I can think of that might work is a cheap brand of pyrethrum surface spray

Anything is still possible at that age. My RIR hen that I hatched had the largest comb and biggest attitude as a chick, but then after the first month it grew slower than the others and she quieten down as she got older.

I'm only getting about 50% as well. For that incubator if you're not hatching Marans or Welsummer I would go with 100.5 f and as close to 30% humidity as I can.

You need to calibrate your temperature settings for next time, sounds like the incubator has been to cool. It's also possible that your humidity has been to high. If your very lucky a few more might hatch, a cool hatch can go to day 27. Any longer and the chicks starve before hatch. If the...

I looked at joining hatching with friends but it looked a bit over the top for me. I'll stick with my Aussie thread and she said/ he said. KC is definitely sitting so I'll give her 8 as I seem to be at 50% fertitlity. Candled cuddles 6 eggs. Tossed 2. 2 showing good 7 days development and 2...

I have 6 under a broody I need to check for viability at some point, and I might have 2 more going broody as they are camping in the nests tonight instead of the perches. I see how they are over the next few days and then decide if I want to give them eggs.

Is is not usually a good sign, especially if it is before day 15. It can still be okay and hatch, the chicks will be small though. I would personally increase the humidity a bit, but also for first time hatching it's good to look for a slightly less busy thread than a sponsored hatch along as...

I would leave the egg there for another week and then check again. I've had quite a few look like that between days 5-10 but have chicks in them by day 15, which go on to hatch.

Oh and on terminology when I first joined the site I kept trying to work out how kanagaroos were related to a chook. It took a while to figure it was also used as short for rooster. Isn't cockeral only males under 18 months old?

Just jumped on here. The chicks I hatched at the beginning of the month were stolen by predators of some sort, I have a new batch in the incubator set on the 21st, and it looks as if cuddles has gone broody again. I did the first candling of the eggs and tossed 13 clears of the 30 I set. It...
