In 2020 Sydney hatched fertile eggs from my friends flock @CrazyChookChookLady

Ned was one of those chicks. CCCL took the chickens back as I had no room to expand further. There was no Cluckle Hut at the time. Ned left when he was a couple of months old to join CCCLs tribe. He then grew up with his Dad Stanley. Stanley taught him how to be the excellent rooster he is today. Stanley died suddenly and Ned had responsibility for Stanley's tribe.

Sydney with the 3 chicks she hatched. Ned is the black one with a dot on his head. He was all rooster from day one.

He's Ned on Friday with his flock.

He now has 7 hens and 1 junior rooster. I was going to split out Cappy and the 2 black hens into their own coop, but I don't think I will now.

I found that the boys take turns doing escort duty while free ranging. Depending on which hen needs to lay determines which roo takes her to the coop. The remaining boy stays with the rest of the flock.

There is no hostility between Ned and Cappy. They both mate with the hens, Cappy only has a few that allow him though.

What a great update.

BFTP:
This is stupid, a grown man (with my history), crying over a lost pet. Well, so what! He was my roo. and my friend, I miss him beyond any imagination.
How can you even think it is stupid. That is just true love & bonding. There is never any shame in loving, bonding with, and treating an animal well and with love, respect & dignity....EVER.:hugs:hugs:hugs I'm sorry I never got to know him...he sounds like a really good Roo!

I drive when upset. I live a good rural life with nobody around on the back roads.
Another BFTP:

Please don't drive when you are upset. That is how I lost a dear friend. Father's best friend's son...he was my age, and would give the shirt off his back to anyone. Always drove when he was upset. 9 accidents ...only one of which he was injured in (other than a few minor bruises or scratches) We joked he was a cat with 9 lives. Then.....a couple of years later...10th accident... he died. Christmas eve day, just a couple of months after he got married....he was only 26 y.o. Again, please don't drive when you are upset....:hugs:hugs:hugs

Edited to add: and most (all but 1) of the first 9 were serious accidents that caused the vehicle to be totaled or nearly so...and that at a time when they were metal, not highly destructable plastic.....
Our small family farm 'housed' 3 different of his wrecks until he/his parents scavenged the wanted parts and the rest was brought to scrap yard for scrap metal $.

Roosters can just get along… Ned is looking handsome! I think a lot of it is about being raised or integrated in a flock with a really confident Rooster. I’ve recently and separately integrated (well, Spike is still adjusting and settling in) two Young Roosters into my Free Range flock with Two existing Senior Roosters and a handful of cockerels. They are intelligent thinking animals as long as the hormones don’t take over.

Cashew says hi, too! She’s never tasted raisins.

This was supposed to be my Monday shot, but I’m late.

Hi Cashew! :frow
My Mom bought my hens a big bag of raisins and they absolutely love them! I give them a handful every now and again during the winter, but all of my friendly girls jump up on my lap and pull on my sleeve to remind me about the raisins whenever I sit down. They are addicted!!

Nope… I have this weather app on my phone, if I bother to check it. I often delegate this to DH, as I always forget where on the phone the silly thing is. I also use the look outside method! 😂 my outdoor sensor on the digital thermometer broke a couple years ago. 🤷‍♀️

The other thing is the chickens don’t obey the daylight savings time change for some reason. I guess not enough of them have phones?
YET. Give them time :hmm

A friend came today with an abundance of lovely gifts. My dog insisted on sitting right ontop of him almost the whole time he was here. We had to escape to the garden so he could drink his coffee in peace then flexi decided she wanted his attention too so she sat in the middle of us for at least five minutes. Them pecked his shoes  all animals just love him :love

Plus in more news, flexi laid her first egg this year this morning
