Jan. 2022 Hatch-a-long

How is it going with the backwards pipping chick?🤔
I had one in this batch as well that looked like it was internally pipping and then just stopped. It was from one of my pullet eggs.
The backwards chick is finally out! She just finished hatching a few mins ago & made her way to the middle of the incubator for a nap 😂

We still have 1 more left to hatch. We had another dis & another died shortly after hatch. I’m not sure what went wrong with the 2nd dis unless it was just the humidity problems I’ve been having. I’m kinda 2nd guessing setting these other eggs with the rate things are going with this hatch. I’m praying these 2 make it or I’ll be having to find a couple chicks asap to keep lil Nugget company. I feel so bad for her being all alone in the brooder but she seems healthy

Final tally for January 31 hatch is 5/6. one was DIS it appeared to internally PIP but then did not do anything after that. This was one of my young pullet eggs, so not surprising.
Last one just hatched about a half an hour ago, another paint. So two blues, one black and two paints this go round.
On to the February hatch-along where I have 32 eggs in process.😊
Good luck to everyone still waiting for chicks to hatch!❤️

Such cuties 💕 I’m glad your hatch has gone better than mine. It’s looking like 1 out of 16 for me. The backwards chick isn’t moving around much just sleeping in the middle of the incubator. The other chick that was still working on hatching had blood start oozing from the safety hole. I pulled to candle & it was gone too

All of mine were pullet eggs which may be why I had so many quitters, 1 wasn’t fertile. Could that be why 5 of the 7 have either dis or shortly after hatch? Or would that most likely be caused by my humidity problems this weekend?

Sorry you lost so many! :hugs

I’ve had chicks lay pretty lifeless for almost a full day before they get on their feet, so there’s still hope for that one!🤞
Yes, pullet eggs sometimes have problems especially with malpositioning. This is especially true if it’s a brand new layer that hasn’t been laying at least a month. Though I have had success hatching pullet eggs previously.
But I think you’re humidity fluctuations were the biggest culprit. It’s likely multi factorial. Glad you have one, though it’s going to need buddies!❤️

You’re giving me hope for this other little one. She’s all fluffed up now so we moved her to the brooder but she’s still just laying around unless I pick her up. When I pick her up she tries to get out of my hand. I hope that’s a good sign.

All of my girls had been laying since October (the hen that laid Nugget had been laying since August) they were Sapphire Gems (except Nugget’s mom) so I’m questioning if that had anything to do with it as well 🤷‍♀️ but I did clean the bator & set the new eggs last night so 🙏 🤞 that these have a better hatch. I didn’t want these eggs to get any older. I think that was another problem I had with the first hatch too. All of the eggs were 6-8 days old.

Noodle (chick 2) has made a huge improvement. She’s still not as strong as Nugget but she’s finally standing & walking more. She’s been eating some mash & drinking vitamin water. I also got them a heat plate last night instead of the heat lamp. They seem to be enjoying it. My total is 2/16 😔

Are the toes straight or curled? Does it have trouble walking?

Great news about Noodle!🥰
I see you are also on the Feb hatch-along. Hopefully the next time will go better.❤️
