Question on Turkey Poults.... how long after hatching does it take for them to get stability and running around? The first one that hatched is seeming stable on his legs, the 2nd one does a lot of flopping around and ending up on his back. (less than 24 hours old).. Anyone with experience with this?? Ideas? Tips?

I wouldn't be worried about it if it's less than a day old. Turkeys take a bit longer than chicks to get up on their feet and start moving around. Also poults tend to sleep most of the time for the first couple of days.

Also, are we going to have a June HAL? @Sally Sunshine

Quote: Enjoy your trip. Sounds like you'll come back home to a broody hen.
Early this morning I had a few that has already hatched, really due tomorrow.
Congratulations!

Lockdown at noon today. Here is what we ended up with,15:

6 Lavender Orpingtons (7-1 early death)
3 Russian Orloffs (7-3 clear,
1 blood ring)
5 Ameracauna mix (6-1 clear)
1 Black Copper Marans (4-3 clear,
rooster was injured, we knew these may not be fertile, breeder didn't charge for them.

Two of the Lavender Orpingtons are wiggling in their eggs already, and all fifteen showed movement when we candled last night. Hoping for a good hatch. It's our first time so have no idea how successful we'll be and am very nervous and excited!
Good Luck with the hatch!

I hatched my first ever turkey today! Two actually

Did my Day 14 candle on my last 2 Bielefelder eggs in the bator. I could see some veins and feathers, but one was not moving at all and the other one was only moving slightly. Crossing my fingers but I don't have a lot of hope for these eggs. This is my 3rd time hatching & the last 2 times I saw a lot more movement. Maybe these chicks will just be super calm and mellow???? Maybe???

Well, the broody is still sitting away on her 6 eggs so hopefully hers will hatch at least. I haven't candled hers cause she is way back under a bush and really hard to reach.

Okay so I'm joining kind of late... but i have some supermarket quail eggs due to hatch in 6 days! A fair amount are viable embryos as of last night!
Welcome! Good luck with your hatch!

The dang broodies! Good thing I left them with only 2 chicks! I just found them lifeless and sprawled out in the coop! They are in the incubator and I am going to give them electrolytes! Anything else I can do?!
