For much of Southern Europe rules etc that apply to the cities don't apply out in the sticks. For many of the farms here and in Southern Italy, Sicily the rule books and standard practices just aren't relevant.
Not being political....but....there is alot of regulatory breaches by some EU member states.

There is the danger of trying to follow the American model of backyard chicken keeping
which is completely irrelevant here.
Suggest to someone here you should be buying chick grit in little bags, or covering the ground with DE etc etc and you are likely to be talking to yourself very quickly and you're coffee at the bar will get served cold.:gig

One of our members, @Gargoyle went to Italy and attended a poultry show while he was there. He's posting pics of all the birds here:

I'm planning to visit a poultry show here in Ireland next weekend and will definitely take pics while I'm there. It would be lovely to see what you all have in your countries/regions if you go to poultry shows?

When I was in Schwarzwald, Germany it seemed like Chickens were on the backburner and nobody used medications for them. Granted, I saw them at parks and farms.
When I was in S.A. I had to go to my doctor to get a prescription for antibiotics for one of my hens.. The State vet was the only one I could call for help and he could only do so much. Thankfully my doctor was great and gave me a prescription, no questions asked and didn't even charge me for the "consultation" :)

It's a bit like that here, except it's the pharmacist in the various villages who has the final say.

They have one in the village where the local priest blesses the livestock here.;)
