Rhode Island Red laid a white egg?

Our RIR chickens are 15 months old and one of them laid a white egg today. Has this happened to anyone else? I read it could be because of molting but I also read that molting doesn't usually start until 18 months. Would love some insight from anyone knowledgeable in this. thank you!

They always lay brownish eggs so this is this first time ever finding a white egg.

Thanks for the reply. It was quite a surprise to see a white egg. It was smooth just like they normally are. I just had to come get some insight from others!

Yep, that's pretty accurate.
It can also 'just happen' once in while..spray booth malfunction

Even tho your birds are 'only' 15 months, if it's 'fall' where you are, that's prime time for molting. The '18 months' is plus or minus a couple-few months.
