2 sapphire gems, roo or pullet?

The chick along the back wall has the stance of a male, has typical slow feather growth of a male and is dark as well.(male) The females lean forward and carry their heads almost level with their backs(I call them low riders lol)

Here is a closer picture of him

At the moment, I have 2 sapphire gems. I was told they were both pullets, but one has far less feathers, but are supposed to be the same age. Also stand more like a roo a lot of the time. The both are lacking on the tail bit, but they are 3 weeks old now. Even if one is a roo, I'm keeping him as I live out in the country and I would love to be able to hatch some chicks nextView attachment 4082704 year as our coop can accommodate almost 100 chickens.

That last photo :lau :lau :lau
What a neck!!!
He definitely doesn't look like a pullet :hmm I hope it makes a good rooster if it turns out to be one

Ya but I was reading that depending on the parents, like if you breed a sapphire gem rooster to a sapphire gem hen, autosexing isn't accurate or doesn't work or something. And I have no idea what the parents were of these 2. The light Grey one I know is a pullet, just the darker one has me confused a bit I guess.
Auto-sexing and sex-link are NOT synonymous terms.

Sex-link are 2 different breeds specifically chosen to breed as babies hatch out with gender specific down. This is also called a first generation cross or a hybrid. Sapphire Gems are one of these.

Auto-sexing breeds got started with the sex-link sort of cross. Subsequent generations are specifically chosen and bred to get that sexable down at hatch to breed true through every hatch after. It usually takes a minimum of 7 generations to reach this point. Bielefelders, Cream Crested Legbars, Wybars, Rhobars, Welders are all examples of auto-sexing breeds.

Black Breasted Reds or Silvers aren't sexable at hatch, but are by the 3-4 week mark as the roos get black breast feathers while the hens get salmon breast feathers.

The auto-sexing doesn't breed true when crossed with other breeds without doing the multi-generation specific breeding to get the consistent hatching.

Yes considering this chick is a hybrid (of unknown parentage) its difficult to 'predict' .It does have typical traits you'd see in a baby roo

All my SG rooster's chicks are auto-sexing, females being dark gray with dark legs, and males being light gray with white on the head and yellow legs. Maybe not applicable to all SG's though? Probably just his genetics.
Here's one of his daughters:

Did your roo get any barred feathers on its neck, wings or tail as it got older? Any photos of it as an adult?
Here is another pic

They're a sex link hybrid and don't breed true. The roosters all look different so photos are difficult to find. I bought 6 pullets at rural king 3 years ago and they're wonderful birds .They lay a nice large egg and are very docile. I only kept one to use as a broody hen because I feared predators would eat them all. They aren't predator savvy and can't fly well due to their size. As you can see in the pictures all the roosters can vary in looks but most look like the 1st 2 photos. The 3rd photo shows a rooster that only has dark feathers on its neck which makes them very difficult to sex while young (solid colors and darker necks)
The 3rd photo looks like a hen to me

I'll post updated photos weekly, plus I'm picking up either 4 or 6 more sapphire gems, along with some other breeds, this weekend. Straight run with those ones.

So I'm not sure at this point if winf is even a sapphire gem. The feathers are not getting lighter. In this picture he is standing next to the one I know for sure is a sapphire gem. And 3 of my barred rocks had to say hello
