Q1) I have a 16 week old quail who isn't behing like a hen or a roo. It doesnt crow or mount and doesn't have foam. It doesn't lay eggs. The rest of its covey is normal and laying since week 8. No stressers, 15hrs light, good food, tried solitary with very controlled food and also now with its covey of 4 hens 1 roo for 4 weeks with crumbles and occasional treats (sprouted lentils, powdered eggshells, barley fodder, healthy weeds)
Why no eggs? Is it malformed and should be culled or late bloomer? How many weeks old until i should stop waitingnfor eggs?
Q2 being a noob, Iused twist ties to mark my hens (i use zip ties now). Most fell off but one bird became maimed by the twist tie and hopped on one foot. I took it off once i noticed and the gash on its ankle healed but its foot curled under and it walked on the top of its foot (its hock?). After about a week of walking/ hopping this way, today i put it in a splint (paddle foot, credit card triangle underneath and taped on with masking tape). The splint is staying on, the quail seems to have gotten used to walking with it.
Questions are: my quail is 16weeks old. How long to leave the splint on? it looks clean, am I supposed to change it? Is this likely to fix its foot based on the info i provided?
Q3 I think one quail might have bumble foot. But maybe not. If it does and i cull it rather than fix it, is it possible the meat is bad or poisonous?
