Ancona Androgyny

Is the morning crow a dead give away? Even if it sounds more like a “caw” from a black crow? Our 6 week old Ancona has even doing that the last few mornings. So annoying!

Crowing hens are very rare.

If you've got a chick anywhere between hatch and 6 months of age and it's crowing, it should be safe to assume it's a male.

Chickens can make many sounds, so you'll have to judge whether it's really crowing or not. I find it helps me to watch them: crowing roosters have a particular posture, which helps me sort which strange sounds are meant to be crowing.

Thanks. Is this the posture? I caught the last half of the noise. Wish I could attach a video.
