Any Home Bakers Here?

I need help planning ahead for a meal. Let me tell you my situation.

It looks like my grandmother is getting ready to pass away. That’s all I’m going to say, I won’t go into details.

Anyway, here’s where he needs some advice. What types of food and recipes would be appropriate for a funeral?

Can someone please give me some ideas? So far, all I have is funeral potatoes.
I am sorry to hear about your grandma.
Finger food is easy on you at difficult time and avoid too much cleaning/washing up.

Easier on other free hands to hugs and not so much looking for knife and fork to eat with..etc..

I attended a sad event like this a few years back and the family served similar to subway, but on the fancier scale, smaller size, water bottles and paper plate. I don't know if this is appropriate or not, but I did not really bothered, I only took the water bottle because the family members keep on asking that I eat and drink.

It depends on what time the funeral is.. here in Germany, if it is at lunchtime, you cook potatoes soup, if it is afternoon, you bake cake served with coffee, later than that or in the morning, sandwiches, also, how much time/money you are willing to spend, lunch soup and after that cake and coffee?!

My first ever, sd discard chocolate chip cookies, I left the 2. batch in the oven too long 🫣 got 2 more cookie sheets to get it right 🤪

Jared, here would be criteria for me for deciding what to cook.

--Is there something that would honor the person who passed? A favorite meal, or their special recipe(s)? It's a celebration of that person.

--Since you have a few days to think about this, is there anything that you like to cook, but it has a long prep time? (I call these things "project" recipes.)

--Something that keeps well if there are leftovers, or that are easy to give leftovers to the guests.

--The "finger food" suggestion is a good idea.

Update.:wee
Here are the photos. Yesterday morning it was bubbling big time as per photo.

I was overly excited, so I started working on a bread dough. I worked on it 3 times yesterday and this morning baked it and that is what it looks like.

It is crunchy on the outside, soft almost like sandwich on the inside and a bit sour. The starter was ~240g

I saved a bit of the starter and put it aside until I build it up really big to bake a big loaf.:celebrate

It smell nice during the starter process, I think the yogurt did that.

Thank you for sharing your specialty.

Nice job!

The sourdough will get stronger over time.

I made more knock-off Panera Orange Scones today. Triple batch this time! About half went into the freezer, I want to see how well they survive being frozen. I had the vague idea of doing a bunch of baking before the summer heat hits so I can have baked goods without turning the oven on.
