Any tips on how to kill a coyote in a residential neighborhood?

Definitely check your city and county laws on this. They are different every where. But using traps or poison might be illegal no matter what (because you can harm other animals in the process)

I bet in my county I could shoot a coyote, as long as I am using firearms safely and not endangering my neighbors. But snap traps and bait are illegal because it may harm other animals, some protected or endangered, or even someone else's pet. This is why we haven't poisoned our coyotes yet, because I would be devastated if I ended up poisoning a neighbors dog, or if a hawk ended up feasting on some bits and died. But if I was ever quick enough with my .22, I'd kill 'em!

I can shoot it! Noone told me I couldn't. If it was a wolf I couldn't do anything about it but they would then come to trap it and relocate it. I talked to the city, the DNR, and the federal trappers. City told me there are NO ordinances against the eradication of coyotes here. They then told me to call the DNR, the DNR told me to call the city and the federal trappers told me to call the city. I am not playing that game with them. The place is full of avid hunters, I am sure more likely then not the neighbors would be willing to help if I throw in a case of beer or something

The only way to get it to come out without having to sit by a fire like elmer fudd all night waiting for it is to put out some bait to lure it into our yard where I would be comfortable shooting it. I am not sure how anyone elses yards are layed out and how close other houses are ect. I don't want to take a chance on damaging someone elses property. I know some will have a problem with the way I want to take care of this but I will say if you saw the damage to my beloved cat you'd want revenge too! Mourning the loss of her is almost unbearable and almost as hard as it was to loose my mother to cancer 1 year ago. Tooo bad the pelt isn't in good shape or I might have been able to sell it to offset the hundreds of dollars in vet bills I have accumulated over the past few months.

seek out a trapper they are generally more successful then hunters where ever your yard ends is a good place to blind set a trap or snare where they are leaving a field or coming out of whatever woods are close by it is harder to catch yotes at the scene of the crime, much easier after they have eaten then when they are on their way to eat. With a full belly they are more curious then when they are charging in after whatever food they are after

Unfortunately the trappers are also expensive to hire, nobody will help unless I shell out $$$ I don't have right now. I have to take care of this thing myself. I am gonna do some asking around the neighborhood to see if they can lend a hand in dispatching it. I got all weekend to camp out in the yard to try to get this thing again. For everyone and their animals sake. I can't believe the city didn't take me more seriously when I mentioned that this IS a public safety issue.

I mean whats it gonna take? When a child is attacked by this yote during the day, thats when they will get off their duffs and do something I suppose

Thats exactly what I am trying to avoid. There are now several cats MIA, the ones that didn't get away..... Sigh.

ask around about local bow hunters!! My husband is an avid bow hunter and would love the opportunity to kill something with his bow. Plus they are exteamly quiet....and not dangerous in a residental area because a bow hunter would have to be anywhere from 20-40 yards away. It is not like a gun and you don't have to worry about a stray bullet !

Don't bother with a live trap, or a box trap for coyotes, they are too smart. We set ours out close to an area where they had been seen, let it set to get rid of any smell and baited it with everything from dog food to live kittens and everything inbetween. Used electronic calls. Nothing. (Well, the neighbors German Shepherd and 4 raccoon's don't count)

Try a fishing trouble hook.. the real big ones. Slide some raw chicken down in the center and hang from a rope about 5 feet high. When they jump up to get it, they hook themselves.

Yeah, it sounds cruel, but not nearly as cruel as a coyote attack on a Jack Russell. They tore her limb from limb, literally. We are relatively coyote free now.
