Are These Tumors On Her Head?

Sorry for your loss, but very glad that you prevented her from suffering. It is always difficult to cull, but what responsible owners should do. If you would like to get her tested for Mareks or Leukosis, the state vet can perform a necropsy M-F if the body is kept cool. Here is a list of state vets:

Thanks. We might do that, but I think she was wrapped in plastic and put in a freezer because trash pick up won’t be for a week. So, the freezing of her might be a problem for necropsy.

Yes, we were sad to cull her, but worse to think of her growing tumors and suffering. The kid was the primary caretaker of her, so approved the cull, but did not wish to be present for it bc was too attached.

So far, no other symptoms of illness here. Hope it stays that way.

You could discuss that with the state vet pathologist. They still might be able to test her for the diseases, so I would at least ask.

Good idea-I’ll call. Spouse put the bird in the freezer, I didn’t find out till later, as I wasn’t sure when we would cull her. So, by the time I found out, she was likely frozen. Btw, she was put into a deep freeze chest freezer we have in the barn for non-human food, and non food purposes.
