Ask Maisie - Friendly advice for your chickens!

Dear maisie, we have several coops and of which one, (the largest) has no bird netting bc it is too big. Birds of prey aren’t a big deal for us and we have attack roosters, but we have small groups of ‘outcast chickens’ who jump out and free range all day. Honestly it’s not a big deal as they stay relatively close and go in at night, but they lay… everywhere. For a while we just would go and look for them and it was annoying but not an issue. Now our Farmdog decided he likes eggs, and finds them before we can. What can we do about either getting our dog to quit eating eggs or keep the hens in the coop? We’ve tried keeping them in a tractor for a few weeks and letting them out but they fly right out, and we did try clipping wings, but they still got out.

Hello Maisie. My name is Fiona and I love to follow my owner out of the coop after everyone has gone out into the run. She used to enjoy me following her out and when she'd have time, she'd even let me free-range for a few minutes. But now, because our rooster, Tribute, has attacked her so many times, she jumps, thinking I'm him. How do I not scare her anymore but still follow her out like old times? Thanks! -Fiona
