Hi everyone I am new chicken mum. I bought six baby chicks from the store last week and five of them are doing really well but instead of one that is always sleepy and eat not as much as other chicks. The only part that had developed is her wings and she can't close it properly. Please help me what to do with her

another question is whAt does it mean when chicks make sound? Are they trying to tell me something?

growing feathers! Oh yeah!

Your baby with the wings longer than its body is a "failure-to-thrive" chick. I had one this past spring. It's heart breaking, but they seem to have an inability to process the nutrients in their food and grow. The usual outcome is death, later if not sooner.

I've seen one survive, although much smaller than the rest, and then succumb to a predator due to not being physically up to the event.

When chicks peep, they are speaking a language, whether it's to you or the other chicks. It's the same phrases that adult chickens use, and chicks are hatched knowing how to speak it.

About the only thing we humans can understand most of the time, though, is the frantic peeping made when a chick is distressed. It's hard to miss. If your failure-to-thrive chick is making a constant peeping with no letup, it means it's sick and not feeling well, suffering even.

It is really sad to hear that but I still hope she can survive... My fail to thrive chick is not making lots of sound. She only make noise when she is alone and looking for her friends. I will obeserve her more frenquently btw is there any food I can feed her to help her grow a bit?

You can purchase Poultry Nutri-drench. It's a high potency vitamin and mineral supplement that absorbs directly into the blood stream. The entire bunch will benefit so you can put it in their water, enough to tint the water to appear like weak tea.

mealworms can help. my failure to thrive baby chick died by getting caught by a rat or something.
