Bald belly patch on 2 hens?

Hello

2 out of our 4 hens have developed this ‘area’ this week, they haven’t laid, but they are eating and otherwise acting fine....thoughts?

Any help appreciated

It looks as if 'someone' in the flock is feather pecking/plucking them. Pin feathers appear to be coming in but also appear to be pecked at.

I haven’t noticed any problems between them, though if it is that I’ll be a little relieved as I’ve been worried it was something contagious, though they don’t appear sick in any way! But they haven’t laid, which I guess could be stress? We have checked for mites and can’t see anything. I’ll keep a close eye on them, thank you for the reply

broody was my first thought as well, but I assume there would be broody behavior well before she got that bald

Do you notice lots of feathers on the ground? Could they possibly be going through a late molt?

Interesting! I haven’t noticed any broody behaviour but I did a search and this on a previous post...

oh! that makes a ton of since. I have a broody breed so I hadn't considered how the non broody breeds would fulfill that instinct
