Bay Area BYCers!

Cheryl,
I contacted Priemer about the BEC mini dish waterers & the problems I had & they welcomed suggestions so I wrote them out & sent them in & got an immediate response saying thank you & they would forwqard my suggestions on to BEC. Premier is BEC's distributor. If Ray & I ever get around to retrofiting the ones I have I will go back to using them again. They were so much easier than the screw on water trough & jars. What a morning chore doing all the waterers for the brooders.......YUCK...... If anyone has a better way please share with us.......After they can come out of the brooders & outdoors no problems (comparably). I am having Aaron move my Feb 21 chicks outdoors today under cover with an adjustable lamp for heat at night. I keep losing one here & there & hate that.

Debi, I totally understand the cost being a big factor for going on road trips. I filled my little PT up yesterday & it took over $50 which I realize is inexpensive for those of you that have big vehicles with big tanks. I paid $4.17.9 at AM/PM. I never get enough Chicken exposure so I am willing to travel for events to a certain extent. I don't plan on Angels Camp this year I don't think.
What Splash pullet are youtalking about Debi? The clean legged Marans??? or the Ameraucana? I am hatching the Ameraucanas now one by one.....LOL & am waiting to see what the Marans lays to decide what I will do with her. She may become an OE Momma.......

I second Cheryl's request! I had a bad aracuana hatch a month ago (another breeder/seller) and the two surviving chicks did not last long :( I'd love a couple of pullets... Seriously... :) 'Bators are full (shocking) but room in the brooders...

Karen, It must have been the clean legged Marans. She is part of the group that you lost the info on. I just think that she is beautiful! I will have splash birds sometime in the future! I've been dreaming about breeding blue and splash Langshans!

Yes & I didn't know why. They are all set up outside now with an automatic hanging waterer & hnging feeder in a peach bin growout pen with a hanging light. When I stripped the brooder they were in to clean & disinfect it I did find moisture trapped under the cardboard liner, probably from that mini drinker that stuck. I have cleaned everything out & am leaving the brooder light on in there to make sure everything is dry. I use Brinsea incubator disinfectant to spray everything down & let it dry before I put new chicks in there.
This morning when I put the yougurt in the brooders I put it on a paper saucer & 2 of the Yokohama chicks got completely into the saucer & gooed themselves up good.....LOL Crazy things. They look like drowned rats I guess they will get their first bath......LOL

Hi! I'm thinking of ordering some ducklings from Holderread Waterfowl, the minimum order is 10 ducklings and I only need about 3 (I *want* 10, but that would be duckie craziness), would anyone be interested in sharing an order? I'm in the SF East Bay Area and would be willing to drive in about a 30- 45 minute radius from Concord, CA or Richmond, CA (live in one, work in the other, so both are convenient) to meet you and deliver ducklings.
Here's the breed list: http://holderreadfarm.com/breeds_list_page/breeds_list.htm
OR, if anyone in the Bay Area has black or silver Runner ducklings for sale, that would be great, also!
Thanks!
Ilana

I have Black Sweedish ducks and drakes, with only one Black Runner drake. My ducklings have always looked Black Sweedish, though, so maybe he is not the dad. I can hatch some anytime if you are interested. Here is one of the drakes posing on hubby's shoulder. We call this the cheep pirate.

and the mom and ducklings from last fall:

At yesterday's Youth Show they had a live auctions & a nice pair of Black Langshans went for a very reasonalbe price & then were donated back & went 9if I remember right) for an even better price the second time arouns. I just sat on my ands determined NOT to get another breed......LOL

You should have bid!!! I would have taken them off your hands! LOL! I found a breeder who sells blue and splash eggs and I think chicks. They are on the other side of the country, of course. Would you choose to buy eggs over chicks? Now remember, I don't even have an incubator and would need to twist someone's arm to hatch them for me!
