I know, I know, it’s waaayyyyy too early to tell but I love keeping track and posting updates for others who may also be in this waiting game of waiting for chicks to get older to tell hen or roo. I bought three bbs Marans (two of which are splash, and one blue) and one forest egger. Anyways, I just wanted to post progress pics as these chicks age and see any guesses y’all wanna take! These chicks hatched 3/25 so their 2.5 weeks old ❤️

These are my guesses comparing them with eachother since they’re hatch mates 😁
Chick 1 is the forest egger (suspected cockerel)
Chick 2 is splash marans (hopefully pullet?!)
Chick 3 is blue Marans (suspected cockerel)
Chick 4 is splash marans (hopeful pullet?!)

3 weeks old and in that super awkward stage. I’m staring at them every day just waiting for a red comb to pop up haha but I don’t see anything significant YET. Thoughts?
I also added pics of them standing bc I thought maybe that could give some clues?

Awwe I feel your pain with this. I was obsessed with sexing my chicks to the point of my partners madness! I will stick with 1, 3 and 4 being cockerels, but I am hoping you don't have all cockerels! Keep us posted 🙂

Here's a link to the post I made last year having a go... spoiler alert, all the top 4 were cockerels. Only the two chipmunk legbar chicks were pullets. I hope you have better luck than I did!

Honestly I’d be happy even with just one pullet! I didn’t post the forest egger here, just the three bbs chicks bc I’m certain the forest egger I named chick 1 from the first group I posted Thursday, is a cockerel.

Yeah those early wattles are peaking through! They are all adorable 😍

Here are by best guesses:

1: cockerel. Notice how much redder their comb is compared to the other black & white one.
2: pullet. Her legs are very small compared to others.
3: this one is questionable. I'm leaning more towards pullet though because they are the same age as the other black and white one which has a lot of red in it's big comb and wattles.
4: cockerel. It has very stocky legs and a big beak.

Keep us updated!

Thank you! I thought both chick 2 and 4 were going to be pullets but after taking pics today, I can see chick 4 def being a cockerel.
And Chick 3 has me going back and forth too. She’s the smallest with smaller legs and even though its comb is slightly raised, it’s very pale.
But I’ll post again later this week and see what changes happen!
