I think you would be happy to switch to horse bedding pellets once you see that they are virtually maintenance-free, eliminate odors, keeps the coop drier, and only need changing once a year. Every spring we remove what's left and put fresh down. What we remove is about 90% sawdust and pulverized chicken poop. We put that around trees, in our garden, and in our compost bins. Can you get pelletized pine bedding for horses? @Debbie292d is a big fan of it. I'm planning to try it in my coop.
Where do you get the pelletized bedding? That sounds like a good option.I think you would be happy to switch to horse bedding pellets once you see that they are virtually maintenance-free, eliminate odors, keeps the coop drier, and only need changing once a year. Search for a "farm store" near you. Many are under the Agway banner, at least where I live. Tractor Supply is also a larger chain. I've also seen bedding at Ace Hardware.Where do you get the pelletized bedding? That sounds like a good option.
Hi! Do you have pics of your bins? I am a every morning scooper of big piles, but that sounds easier! For chickens: We put bins under our roost bars, to collect overnight droppings. Which we dump into compost 2 x year.
For my quail: I've begun deep layer method/composting within my quail Aviary. I used a blend of: Autumn leaves, pine needles, garden dirt, pine shavings, hemp, BIO-CHAR, and occasional STALL Dry.
Right now it's 4-6" deep in areas, and I turn it thoroughly every other day and add something new/fresh.
I have no ammonia odor, and no mites.
It's working great for me so far, it was disgusting before and I was wasting lots of expensive bedding "cakes"
We don’t have Agway, but sounds like I could get it at TSC, Ace or Rural King.Search for a "farm store" near you. Many are under the Agway banner, at least where I live. Tractor Supply is also a larger chain. I've also seen bedding at Ace Hardware.
