Best low cost dog food

I feed my Med poodle Ole Roy the Kibbles kind.A Large bag last a while but then again I do divy out some to trix the neighbor dog.I get the same wally world brand for my 2 kittie's.They love it.They are healthy and do get minimal treats.I think the high end food's are BOGUS rip off's personaly.There were Never these HIGH End Pet food's in the older day's of pet's and most lived longer than the one's Today.Too many chemical's and stuff in all this SO Called Organic, Alll Natural food's.Diabete's/Cancer? You Tell Me?

.Dog's and cat's Naturaly forage and will eat some pretty gross stuff!My Poodle is 8 and and he shows NO sign's of slowing down and kitty 8 also.She hunt's daily for mice and mole's and she is Declawed!I see people often with a Cart full of Expensive feed.Nothing wrong with that.If you've got the money and you feel better giving them High end food that's great.But you can't say anyone is starving an animal because they have 20 can's of OleRoy etc.

We alternate between 4health and TOTW. I think the best low cost food you can get is probably Kirkland Brand form Costco. It does only have one major source of protein, but it is a decent food, it earns 3/6 stars in dogfoodanalasys.com.

i pay $28 for a 40lb bag of chicken and rice kirkland from costco...

i then treat with raw meaty bones and the occasional prey meal.

i feed my cat kirkland too.

I had recently bought a bag of that 4health small bites for my old poodle with bad teeth. She wasn't thrilled with it so i've started mixing it into the 'big dogs' food. I went ahead and bought a big bag of the chicken/rice 4health and will try that for a month or two. The dogs get about 3 cups a day now each for the big dogs, plus whatever the poodle wants to eat (usually less than a cup). So, i go through about 10 cups of food a day. According to the back of the bag, i will still feed about 2.5 to 3.5 cups for all the "big dogs". We'll see how it goes.....

eta; the poodle had a major dental with 12 extractions a couple weeks ago and seems thrilled with the pedigree mixed with 4health small bites now. maybe it was just her teeth bothering her before? She is cleaning her dish now.

i may start adding a single egg a day for each of the "big dogs"......the poodle is apparently sensitive to eggs as she always barfs up scrambled eggs, even if only a tiny bite. I have more eggs than I know what to do with and figure the dogs will enjoy the treat!

There are MANY much loved, happy dogs out there who aren't fed top shelf foods.

I have to agree - I would hate to see millions of shelter dogs not get homes because people don't take them home b/c they can't afford to feed them the best possible dog food. It's all about balance - no, you should not have too many dogs to take care of, such that you can barely afford to feed them or care for them - but people should not avoid dog ownership/familyship simply because EVO or whatever the other foods are are out of their price range!
