breeding silkies & bigger hens

they sound very cute! cochins are definitely on my list of breeds that i want to get, which is unrealistically long. i still have a lot to learn when it comes to chicken keeping as it’s only my first year, but it’s been so much fun so far.

Tell me about it. I started with Cochins, then got more Cochins and some silkies my second year. This year I added Black Cooper Marans, Wheaten Ameraucanas, and Salmon Faverolles - plus I’ve preordered Swedish Hedemora and White Bresse for next spring 😍 chicken math is real!

i had to look up most of those, but they all seem so pretty! i love salmon faverolles, might have to add those onto my own list. the worst part about living in NL is that any nice breed is quite hard to get unless you got them shipped and that scares me quite a bit- i’ve heard so many stories where people’s chicks didn’t make it. but yes! i can’t wait until i can add more onto my flock. i already have plans for another two separate ones that i wanna have- one for silkies and another for other bantam breeds, and my main one which has my bigger birds

that’s so neat! i absolutely love my boys, they are incredibly sweet but they are still young so i know that their personalities could possibly change. i got two hoping for at least one pullet, but you know how that goes haha! i had a feeling from the very start that they were both boys but everyone called me crazy. turned 9 weeks old on wednesday. my top girl in my main coop is incredibly bossy (we literally call her gobble guts because of how greedy and bossy she is) so i don’t know how she would take to having a rooster thats smaller than her. she might need a bigger, older guy to put her in her place. View attachment 2400597
Oh my goodness! They're so handsome! I think those are the sweetest faces I've ever seen. Their eyes are gorgeous too. Such handsome little boogers!

My blue silkie rooster mated my Marans hen (she's actually a cross of two different Marans "MMM" - black skin, black iridescent feathering, clean legs & feet, straight floppy comb) & one of the eggs hatched in the incubator. Their cockerel is quite interesting. He has a small crest, smooth dark gray feathering (bit of reddish brown on his wings and tips of hackles), feathered legs and feet, black skin, and straight floppy comb. I'm so curious about how a pullet would look!

they really are so adorable and already photogenic! i can’t wait to see what the one behind looks like when he’s full grown, he has some black spots unlike the other which is all white. i love his straight comb honestly. and ooooh! do you have any pictures of him? and sounds like that would be so cool. i bet a pullet like him would look so pretty.

this is my top lady, who we call gobble guts. she’s special haha

I don't have a recent picture of him. He hatched in August so he looks so grown now. I'll get a picture of him tomorrow and post it here.
Gobble Guts is a beauty! Those muffs are everything! I love her!

okay! and yes, she also has the biggest personality out of my three girls and the first and only to lay so far. she’s always been a lil cutie- when her muffs first started growing in we were so confused, because of how different she is from her sisters
