Bubble from butt, All of a sudden deathly ill chick?

If the coryza birds are still alive and on your proeperty, it would be difficult to have 100% biosecurity against spreading the disease. They still are carriers, and germs can spread on hands, shoes, clothing, and in the air. Coryza and MG are only alive for several days after the chickens are gone. It is best when a flock gets a disease like coryza, to close the flock and not add new birds until those ar all gone eventually. Sorry that you are dealing with a disease. Getting it identified through testing a couple of birds or having a necropsy done by the state vet on a sick bird would be helpful.

Very difficult thing to go through. I’m sorry you lost your bird. You tried.

As for special birds. I do have one I dote on. She has a congenital tendon problem so walks with a limp. She was not strong as a baby and in that group I lost a chick early on. Somehow Delores took care of herself to live. On good days she hangs a bit with the other girls. When it’s rainy or cold she hangs either in a “nest” she dug in a coop or on a perch in the roost coop. She’s a survivor like me and I’m inspired by her determination. It sounds funny but it’s a privilege to witness her.

Best wishes to you and good wishes for your other chickens.

That stringy thing is her umbilical cord. Pulling it will be a bad thing. It might be infected, & require triple antibiotic ointment application.

At 4 weeks old she still has one? DUDE I CONSIDERED A NAVEL INFECTION and then I was like, no way, they’re 4 weeks old, too old for that!
So can that kill them this way? If I don’t need to treat for cocci I will stop.

we toyed with the idea of culling them all when we decided what it was. I didn’t have the heart to do it, I just figured they’d be the only Ones ever to their flock until they die out. Seeing how I didn’t lose any, I thought it would only be a risk for adult birds outside who may come in to contact with them, never guessed that it would magically work it’s way into the house to these babies. (The chicken I had outside was with a different flock on the other end of the property)

It was easy enough to treat in adults. If that’s what’s going on with these littles, it’s bad! I am going to ask hubby if we can send one to the vet. Not knowing is absolutely killing me because I’m losing precious time

Sometimes the umbilical cord fails to shrivel up, & fall off which can cause infection, & possible death. You can continue corid as a precautionary treatment in Coccidiosis prevention though.

Are you saying that you definitely think it’s an umbilical cord infection they’re dying of? If so, can LA-200 treat that? I bought that stuff because a breeder told me that it’s pretty broad spectrum and good for tons of stuff.

Not all the chicks, I was only talking about the one you lost.
I have no knowledge for that medicine.
