In the Brooder
Hello Everyone!
Just some background information. I have 4 ducks all just over 15 weeks old. 1 female Khaki, 1 female Pekin, 1 male Khaki and last but not least 1 male Runner. My female pekin came to me as a day old duckling-blind, she will on/off have a bum leg (but able to walk) and has an angel wing (yes, I have attempted to fix it, but when its wrapped she can't get around with he bummed leg).
Long story short, 1st yes...I know I have a high male to female ratio. I am hopfully next week picking up 10 laying females. But anyways, this morning I noticed my female pekin had blood pouring out of one of her wings when I let them out of the coop. Initially I thought something got in, but after evaluation she had several feather broken including some blood feathers. I took care of the issue at hand. Also over the past week I notice more and more white feathers all over the coop and run. They were all in the freshly cleaned pool today and I noticed both Khakis were picking feathers of the Pekin. At 1st I thought they were cleaning her, until the female Khaki got onto her back, as if she was playing...but looked more then playing. I yelled at her and she got off. I then seen that the Khaki male got onto the Khaki female, they looked to be mating. He looks to mate rough. He grabbed the back of her head, kept holding it under water and sat on her for awhile.
I am unsure if my female Pekin is getting picked on by both Khakis? I am also wondering if the broken feathers were from them being rough with her? They could also be broken from her being clumsy, but my gut says its from the others.
Is it normal for a female to sit on another female in the water? Also is it normal for them to over clean my Pekin? Or does it really come down to them being big bullies?!?!?
Please help!
