Calico Cochin Thread

Pics
Hi all, I am new to cochins and the thread. Finally worked my way through it. These little cuties were hatched out from LuckyPickens, this is from a few months ago and I will try to get more recent ones posted later... any input or opinion of them would be greatly appreciated as I know nothing about MF/Calico color, not even certain which they would be
Thanks for any advice or info, I just

my lil' cutie-pies!
(I could talk your ear off about Salmon Faverolles though LOL)

Welcome!
Pretty little birds!
However, I am going to say not Calicos. Especially the one in the middle. As they mature they may lighten up, depending on bloodlines. Mine get darker with age but I know some folks on here have had theirs get lighter and whiter with age so give them another 4-6 months and then you can say if they are Mille Fleur or Calico.
Real cuties and I know you are going to adore them forever!

The girls are much lighter now, one is nearly 65% white... these seem to start dark and lighten as they grow up, and are from a June hatch. However I do want to get some more that are lighter... what and who would you suggest for chicks/eggs? I also have a nice solid black older pullet w/ very good type that I got at APA Nationals, a Blue pullet from the LuckyPickens hatch, and 2 roos that are basically black but might carry mottled (?) as they have a few feathers w/ tiny white tips, one a frizzle and one a smooth. I do love the blue and black mottled birds, and would like to work on building a serious pen of those as well as a MF/Calico pen or 2.
(BTW yours are GORGEOUS!

totally love your avatar girly). I also have a few youngsters growing up from another LuckyPickens hatch that are now 5 weeks old. Any advice where to go from here, and who would be my best bet for what would be great. (I need Buff Columbians and Buff Mottled to really get serious w/ the Calicos right?)

P.S. I am as east coast as you can get, would prefer to not have my eggs travel too far

I have a bunch of birds from Roslyn. on the whole they aren't bad type, but some of her lines are better than others. IMO her blacks are her best line, but I love my mille fleurs. I put my mille roo 'Calico' over 2 blue partridge girls I got from Mandy that have very nice type, and the chicks are coming out much better than I'd hoped. I have 1 pullet also from Roslyn that hasn't started laying yet but should soon who will go in that pen, as well as one of Calico's daughters, a blue mille girl i liked. she started off dark, then went to nearly solid buff with some blue tips, but I think on her next moult i'll see more white come back out.

here's a pic of one of their daughters that was a keeper, but i decided to let a friend have her for her daughter. so instead of being a regular chicken, she gets to be a very special friend for a very special little girl.

and she gets to watch tv every evening to boot!

what are Yalls opinions about this lil pullet? She is 26wks, I hatched her out of a swap...I have fallen in love with them. They r LF cochins
i'm curious why your birds all seem to have a pink wash to the blue feathers...

That is awesome, and good for you for helping foster chicken love at a young age

-this sounds like a camera issue not a bird issue to me

its my camera...my good one is dead so I'm having to use my phone. None of them have that tint n person. Just curious if their type etc is good.

I have a couple of birds from Roslyn too.. one pullet is useless & is headed for auction, one pullet is pretty darn nice

I have 2 mottleds from her eggs, one black and one blue, I'm not sure what I'm going to do with them yet.

Sandiklaws are you looking for a Calico cockerel? 'Cause I'm sure we could accommodate!
