Chickcozy incubator

Were you able to kind of get the beak out of the membrane? You’re doing great - it is really really difficult to save a chick that never internally pipped. So if this little one doesn’t make it, at least at you know you did all that you could to give it a chance.

Some times even if they are alive, I think they have gone for long enough without oxygen that they are basically brain dead. That is what I have found with a lot of my chicks that never internally pipped. But you may have intervened in time for this one to have a chance!

I can still see the air cell falling and rising, I got a little hole near the head but I’m not sure how close to the beak..

I would just try to pull it out again soon (half hour maybe?) and try again. The most important thing will be getting the beak out of the membrane. You can use a blunt toothpick or the like to help, fingers are sometimes too big to be poking around in there.

Oh and usually I only keep my chicks in the incubator for an hour or two after hatching unless there is a problem. Totally up to you but they will likely be just fine to go into the brooder! Is the baby you are working on the last one that hasn’t hatched?

No there are still 6 more to hatch.

I’ve taken out the ones that hatch yesterday now and I’ll take the egg in assisting out again in a few minutes to work on a bit more.

I’m thinking of placing it in a glass bowl when I put it back, it’s high enough I don’t think the others will be able to get to and then I can still observe this one and it could hatch in it, if we are lucky.

Great idea! Prayers for your little struggler!
