Gita I forgot to ask... Which breed is Eve's mother? The GS or SD?
I think they are great looking birds so far! What a fun project! I kinda wanted to try my own breeding project, but I foresee not being able to actually sell any offspring becoming a big problem for me really fast.Upon looking it up again, I can confirm the rooster was the OEGB and the hen was the Sebright.![]()
Here are some of my Dalmatians in the making. A hardy, friendly breed that can produce good meat, is good in hot and cold weather, are good layers for bantams, are larger then some bantams but still small enough to be economical, and are good mothers as well. They certainly aren't perfect yet, half of them don't have spots, comb sizes are different, and some even have silkied feathers, but its just a fun protect for now.
All of them have sebright and silkie in them.
This is Dodie (named after the author of 101 Dalmatians)
This is one of the "Banshees" a very vicious cross before silkies were added to calm them down (they took after the fearsome sebright side)
Little Dude and Sigh
Susie with her chicks. Susie (Black-eyed Susan) is named so because her eyes are darker then her nearly identical sister, Goldie's
This is Susie again
Dove
I think this is Goldie but its hard to tell sometimes
Dastan before being given to his adopted mother (he was a late hatcher from underneath Susie and so I gave him to another broody hen, a silkie who accepts any new chicks)
Susie again, being all protective as she sits on her chicks, Tad, Amber, Dodie and Ruby
Susie's mother (or aunt) one of the Banshees. Needless to say, these hens actually crowed and we got rid of them because they were vicious.

They're all very cute.
My DD's been asking for a silkie hen for a while. I'm still unsure about them. I like to see eyes & faces on my chickens, so a SQ silkie is likely not going to happen. Perhaps DD will talk me into a clean-faced silkie mix someday. Preferably one that can free range.
DH only like the big eggs, so any bantam breed is a mere novelty. Our bantam orp lays many sm-med sized eggs. (Almost daily when she's not broody!) Since she's such a hard-worker, DH tolerates her. LOL The Sebright is another story. She was never intended to stay, but the cuteness factor won out. "Trouble" is our useless chicken. In fact, she even comes running to us when we call out, "Useless Chicken!"
