One of our sapphires (fully grown, a little over a year old) jumped over the fence Saturday and was attacked in our front yard by a neighbor's off-leash dog. We didn't see it happen, but the neighbor let us know. We looked everywhere for a body but couldn't find it. Lo and behold, she turned back up in the front yard yesterday evening, limping and missing feathers.
She won't let me touch her, but I don't see any visible wounds other than the missing tail feathers. She is eating and drinking but obviously pretty lethargic. She also has a very messy bottom, which makes me worry a little about internal wounds or perhaps a broken egg.
I've tried to catch her a couple of times to put her in a warm bath and/or get her isolated in her own crate, but she's at least well enough to be pretty evasive. And I can tell I'm stressing her out when I try to corner her.
My question is:
Will the stress of me trying to catch her make anything worse? Should I just let her be?
The other girls gave her a couple of pecks last night when she came back but have mostly let her be. I've added electrolytes to their water and made a mash with their normal feed and some probiotic powder. I've also put the crate where she can voluntarily get into it if she wanted, but she seems to prefer sleeping in a corner of the run or in the grass near the run.
Thanks in advance for any guidance.
