first time raising chicks and honestly petrified i have done something to hurt my babies! it’s been a week and what was supposed to be a dozen sweet chickies is now half a dozen!
day old chicks were shipped while it was fairly cold, spent 3 days in the mail.
two were DOA, two looked extremely weak. the others all looked good.
the two weak chicks were given electrolytes and honey in water, syringed directly to them. they passed a day apart.
three days go by and everything seems okay, 7 babies happy and eating and drinking and hopping around their brooder.
this morning found one chick dead, came home a few hours later to find another chick with drooped wings, closed eyes, looking sad. gave her electrolytes and honey but now i’m petrified all these chicks are going to die! please, can anyone help?
4 foot by 2 foot brooder is inside. ambient temp is 76 and brooder plate is set to 90. they have fresh water changed daily. medicated starter crumbles. bedded on standard pine shavings. they should all be nearing a week old today.
