CombNWattles’ Art

Hands!
They’re fun to draw; especially in Literary Traditions class….

I need to practice drawing the fingers splayed; it’s more difficult because you don’t have overlapping shapes to measure off of.

I have also discovered the fun challenge of drawing on my computer in PowerPoint. I left my mouse in Vermont, so I’m stuck with the trackpad for now; honestly it might be easier than the mouse though.

Posted this in the ‘What made you happy today?’ Thread but thought I’d post it here too, since it has to do with my art:
It’s a month for recovering lost things! In December I lost a mailing tube full of my best art pieces from the semester while traveling through DFW airport. Miracle of miracles, this morning one of the airport train workers found the tube and texted the number on it. He’s going to give the tube to the airport lost and found so I can pick it up.
I had given it up for lost, and now I’m so happy!!!!!
:wee:celebrate:ya:jumpy:woot

Among the pieces in the tube is this one:

It is 22x30in and took hours. I’ll be glad to see it again for sure!!
😁

I picked up my art tube from the airport lost & found today!! Everything is still in it, a little beat up and wrinkled. I’m so happy to have it back. 😌

I broke my personal record for ‘longest I’ve stayed up working in the studio’ by staying up til 5:30 am to finish this self-portrait project. I got to sleep for an hour and a half before my 8am class.
:D 👍
I got permission to use a self-portrait I’d drawn on my own time in the project; it was on 9x12 paper, however, and the project had to be on 18x24. So it turned into a sort of collage, with the hands and shirt drawn on separate paper then assembled.

I drew my left hand in a mirror then realized it was backwards. Had to redraw it:

I had fun trying different arrangements with the pieces:

And the finished piece. (Sorry for the editing. 😌)

The grayscale is pencil and the color is watercolor.

!Art update!

When will this plane ride be overrr…. 🫠😂

Lecture notes…

Bluebonnets! I had no idea what they looked like until my friend (who’s a Texas native) pointed them out.

And this! I was loafing about the studio and decided to use up some leftover watercolors to make a decoration for my locker. Someone had left a packet of salt on the table so I grabbed that to add texture.

My brother thought I should add a rocket, and off it went from there!

I’m glad I experimented before diving into the lettering:

Sometimes my favorite pieces start out as doodles or extra paint to use up. :)

‘Ad astra per aspera’ means ‘through hardship to the stars’. 🪐🚀💫

I’m super happy with this one. This and the vulture drawing reminded me how much I love drawing with a dip pen.

Reference(still cuter than mine…):

And just for fun: Beatrix Potter (of Peter Rabbit fame) also used this type of pen, and sometimes her subjects were adorable, comical chickens!

I laughed out loud when I saw this pair.
