I just moved. We have an 1/2 acre sized "pond" having said that I have tried many ways to get it looking someone clean. there is a lot of debris in it I don't want to kill the fish in it. There are a bunch of lilies growing etc. I have a hobby farm going and raise turkeys and chickens and pigs, heifers etc. I was told ducks will naturally clean a pond. But I am not sure about this. And I don't know how old they have to be before they will be safe on their own.

the pond should be ok with ducks they will eat the algae on the surface or at least pick at it if anything it will probably be good for the pond and its little ecosystem they will eat any small koi or fish in the pond though
anything a little bigger than a minnow they will eat

If you don't think you can get them back into a secure enclosure at night a small floating raft they can climb up onto, or an artificially constructed island, might help a little bit to keep them safe from land predators at night. Still a risk from snapping turtles. Still a risk from hawks.
