Dog thread!🐾

Some people say it's cruel and can cause issues with dogs reacting to shadows. We have always played with a laser light here. Not all my dogs chase it, but those that do love it. I find having certain parameters makes all the difference. We mostly play while I vacuum, and at a few other times. They know where the light comes from, and know when the game ends. I personally haven't had any problems.

When the boxer was younger we would play outside at night and she could run full out after it. Now it's a prance across the kitchen floor for the old lady. Two of my bulldog mixes love to play, and the other two could care less. The Aussie also isn't interested and prefers her tennis balls.
I have heard that about the shadows, but I don’t get that. What does that mean? I do understand why some would say it’s cruel, but I (at least for Chase) don’t think it is. I have a cat that I do think gets frustrated about it. I bet watching you boxer when she was you get was cute!

My brother had a little dog that started to watch shadows after playing with the light. I think it makes a difference when the dog understands where it's coming from. When they don't understand that they are probably always looking for it. It does seem to have some addictive qualities, especially for dogs with a high prey drive. The boxer is still adorable prancing around the kitchen after the light. It's a nice activity for some dogs.

We have a infrared light with a lazer. Well Tucker learned the beep meant light and does react to shadows and light moving. We never let him chase it but he did try to.

Yeah, for some dogs I could see that not being good, and my Dorie would likely be one of them. She has other unhealthy obsessions that literally keep her up at night, keep her from drinking water, etc., so I definitely wouldn't want to use a laser around her.

My mostly Boston has zero interest in the laser light. She doesn't have a high prey drive. She mostly likes looking out the window and barking at every passing car.

My youngest Biscuit I gotta watch. She would play with the light all day if given the opportunity. I don't generally touch it after morning so I don't set her up to be looking all day for it.

Dorie sounds similar. She would play with a ball all day if given the opportunity. I have to clearly tell her "all done" and show the ball being put away or else she'll be looking for it all over the house. As soon as I put her ball away her crazy eyes go back to normal and she looks relieved that she can go on with her day (or night).

She's channeling her inner border collie.
