Jeez, made this a while ago and never realized I never explained the project details! I’m sorry.
Ok so in 2017 before I took a couple year break from this site I bought Silver Partridge Laced Orpingtons and Silver Laced Orps for this project.
Below is a picture of the silver Partridge laced orps. (Not my picture, mothers of the eggs I bought). Mine are identical.
These are not the ideal Orpington shape. I believe they came from a finished project of someone years back.
And the silver laced orps that I bought 2 years ago are from English lines and are big fat and FLUFFY. So I’m hoping that the two types middle out in the F1s that I recently hatched.
I plan on correcting the English Orpington shape after I achieve double lacing.
So the Silver Partridge Laced Orps are [eb Pg]. Silver Laced Orps being [eb Co Ml Pg].
By crossing these two I should be getting eb Pg, and het for Co & Ml in the F1s.
The goal is to get rid of Co and keep Ml.
The plan is to breed the F1s with each other to quickly get double lacing. Im doing this in a non-inbreeding way. No siblings will mate with each other.
Putting this into the calculator made by Henk gives me a 1 in 16 chance for F2s being double laced but this shouldn’t be the exact case with Pg-Ml linkage.
I reached out to a couple people on Pg-Ml leakage and how this would affect this project. If you have experience with this please share.
Now back to the F1s I hatched.
They are feathering in right now and all are identical except one. I don’t plan on using the oddball in this.
This oddball might be because of the silver Partridge laced hens being het for something else. (Or just one hen because the oddball is 1 of 13)
One of the silver Partridge laced Roos has an all white chest. It should be black. For the project I’m using his ideal black chested brother. Maybe the white chest is due to being het for Co?
Edit:
Someone asked me why the poll asks if someone would “pay” for this project. I guess it’s bad wording, can’t edit. The reasoning is that i want to know how well in demand the finished result would be. I don’t like the idea of my project slowly disappearing in the future with time. Like I’ve seen with some other people...
