My male emu, Fred, hatched four eggs. The chicks hatched end of January. They were collected at a day old and raised inside until they could go back out with him. He has been raising them with lots of human contact. They're friendly and healthy. They have been sexed by blood. The male is the smallest - I put leg hobbles and splints on his feet when he was a few days old as he had curled toes and early splayed leg but he is doing wonderfully and very sweet, he as a funny run but it doesn't slow him down. They've been raised in pasture/barn and in addition to foraging they eat Mazuri ratite starter. They love water and come running when I whistle. Kale and lettuce are favorite treats along with spinach and sometimes grapes. Two short videos - one is of them running to the fence yesterday. The other is with their names. The small male, Dundee, and one of the females (Taz or Blaise) are available. My neighbor is keeping Paul and one of the females TBD. I would keep them but I already have the breeding pair and can't keep any more sadly. I live in western Virginia, transportation will be the limiting factor. Not looking to make a profit here - $75 per bird going to a good home would make me happy. I thought I had friends taking two but they don't have fencing ready.
