I found a Fertrell dealer in my area. It took him a good long time to get me a small bag of nutri-balancer, but I started adding that to my fermented mix instead of the avian lactobacillus powder I had been using. I found a reliable source for 18% NW All-Flock and fed that to everyone until they started laying. Then I added oyster shell separately fee-choice.
Then I built 4 more pens and separated my roosters out so I could start a spiral breeding program and this means I can give my hens layer feed while only feeding 1 rooster the layer feed for about 10 days at a time, then I cycle through my roosters with a 3.5 week break in between, so I doubt that much layer feed would have any affect on the kidney.
I had to separate the roosters anyways, they were getting too big and sporty.
