How will you ever be able to let him go
AgreedMarble is one of those special roosters that nobody will ever forget. He has celebrity status already
It was not making any sounds. I just happened to glance into the brooder and saw it flat on it's back gasping. I quickly grabbed it and I guess out of instinct started massaging it's chest. In the midst of another gasp I saw food in it's mouth and I ran the tip of my pinky finger in it's open beak to dislodge it. I then held it upside down and massaged it's crop to dislodge the rest of it. I think it stuffed itself on the chick feed and then took a good drink of water which caused it to swell as it was very wet food. Once I cleared all the food out it started loudly cheeping and sneezing. I just pray it did not aspirate. I tucked in under my shirt on my chest and kept rubbing, irritating it to keep it stimulated for a good 10 minutes. It gasped and sneezed for a few minutes and I waited until it stopped that before I put it back in the brooder. Right now it is acting like nothing ever happened. I think I am going to withhold the feeder and the water overnight. I will give it back to them in the morning. The water first and then about half a hour later the food.I'm so glad you saved it. Amazing! Great work!
I have always been afraid of them choking, when they make that wheeze sound because something is lodged. What exactly did you do?
Move to Kentucky my friend. I actually took the CNA courses in high school. One thing that stuck with me is CPR and the Heimlich maneuver. Please will you be by my side for anything that might happen to me?What is your time worth, besides priceless?
Back in 2017 when we had the vet put down Mini for her bleeding ovarian tumor it cost $45 for the visit & $65 for hazard waste disposal. I hated that my sweetie had been referred to as a hazardous waste on the paperwork! Can't imagine what a vet visit costs today. But really, our vet had pulled Mini thru so many illnesses I think he felt worse than me to put her down. You did the right thing. I know how you feel, been there also.
I am dreading if I ever have to deal with another sick dying chook. A vet would be extremely expensive for me to have one euthanized. Not fair![]()
Keiko sits on the bottom rung of our folding chairs:And what is it about lawn chairs?! Mine think that is the coveted location sleeping under the chair!

The Wildlings went out today. We got the last load of sand into the coop and out we took them. Here’s how it went:
Where are we? Are you sure this is safe, it doesn’t seem safe.

Which I did, so I could leave. They are tough negotiators!
The brooder is empty now and I miss the peeps but hopefully they will make this place home in short order. I am going to keep them inside for a few days before opening up the run.
