Okay, back to work. Honestly the bad part is wheeling the wheelbarrow up the compost pile to dump it.

Nellie was in Focus' nest box. While working on completing egg removal, glanced down to see not 1 but 2 black chicks with Focus. Missed a pic of that. Means she has 5 and is nurturing all of them.

Those brown/gold faced chocolate/black chicks have quite a color variety....and won't pose at the same time. There's one with cheeks (future beard), one is almost red, one really blonde faced and one rich mocha....I think that's just 4 of those....but....come on, lady! Time to take them on walkabout

Maybe she is trying to figure out how to get them down safely.

I have to go back on Monday. By that point, wing development will be well underway, and bi-weekly vids/evenings after work will have to suffice.

I commiserate with you - my four days off were glorious. I miss my chooks.

We had a streak in the early 2000s of some creep butchering cats and leaving them at the spot the bus stopped for school. I wouldn't be surprised if an unsavory individual dubbed the poor bird, although opossums also eat combs and wattles off if they get a chance, according to my friend.

Just curious, do you always wash the eggs or only when soiled?
And do you dry each one with a towel?
I don’t usually wash mine but wonder if perhaps I should.

I wash mucky ones or ones that are soiled by broken eggs.
