Yep that’s how my chickies ate my tomatoes 😁
We do plant veggies for ourselves but most of it goes for the hens ~ we had hens in mind from the beginning when we started w/container produce & herbs & then expanded to raised garden beds.

At one of our snack stops and he chose the apple over meal worms.

I wish I could give this more then one heart, I would give a 1000. I know it has to be so hard letting that little man go for both you and Rose. I hope Versace knows how lucky and special he is. Not everyone gets to travel first class halfway across the country to be found a perfect new home. One where he will be loved and cherished. Little man your new life begins today and you make the most of it and be a good boy. I have to hope that maybe next year you can make another road trip. This time to pick up one of his daughters. That would be the best gift ever in return for this kindness.

They can result in life threatening cellulitis because of the depth of the bite.
depth? Almost all snakes have extremely tiny teeth with only a couple exceptions. Eastern rat snake for an example.

And where did you get that statistics from? I know that those weren’t right but I just checked with multiple highly educated and experienced reptile keepers, one of which had been keeping for decades and has had well over a 100 snakes and all agreed that those statistics are completely untrue.

The scientific facts are that 27% of all snake bites result in infections. These infections are so serious that 68% of those infections require surgical intervention. They can result in life threatening cellulitis because of the depth of the bite. It can be hard to get antibiotics to the area without opening up the wound.

I would say you have been fortunate.

George

That poof keeps growing. I really need to trim it. I cannot though as it is still a mass of pin feathers with a active blood supply. I'm going to be honest and say I am shocked at how long they have already gotten. I was expecting something more along the lines of what his brother Bert has for a crest. He is so pretty and I adore him. It also happened yesterday. George got a beating. Spooky is molting and grouchy. George caught her coming around the house and challenged her and tried to kick her in the face. Oh you poor darling idiot boy. She pummeled him and did it so fast he did not see it coming. He is fine, his pride is bruised. I stayed in my seat, I wanted to stop it but I stayed put. It was hard to watch but Spooky did not set out to hurt him she just took him down a few pegs. I waited a few minutes after it was over and I went and got him and held him. No immediate cuddling. I did not want to undo the lessen he had been taught. Now we get to see how smart he is. Is he going to learn from this or will it take several more beatings. Please, please George be smart. You can also count your lucky stars you did not do this to Raven or Siri. What Spooky gave you would have been nothing in comparison.

Clyde got a beating last night from Eli-too. She was furious! Poor Clyde.

I did the same thing, just watched and waited. Later I went back out and gave him a snuggle.

Is that orange coming the through his feathers? He is looking more like Mr P every day! Hope his toes aren’t crooked though!
