I may have to go up the mountain to check on my property. I haven’t heard from the association since last June. I need to check on snow damage, or theft of my property.
(I usually rent a car for this purpose) the road to the property is way up high and sometimes blocked by landslides. I could fly over, but the wind is not healthy for a single engine aircraft.

Dear BYC friends,

Apologies for a non-chicken related post. Western NC has been devastated by Helene. Entire towns swept away, bodies are floating, children can't find parents, people are still suffering ... Personally this is the worse disaster I have witnessed since my time at the USA (17 years). The videos are unbearable to watch.

If you are able, please consider donate to Samaritan's Purse. I have made a small donation. I have first hand information that they are doing great work helping western NC. https://www.samaritanspurse.org/

Thanks for sharing that info Light. I already donated to a couple of groups but will look into this one as well.
It is an appalling tragedy for so many.

My church has also been working with Samaritan’s Purse to get help for the damage caused by the hurricane. I spoke to the congregation today about how lucky we were not to have such a devastating tragedy. We should give, as we can afford.

Warm Day

Its a warm October day at FBA today. What is a hen to do?

Why, lie in the shade of course!

It’s warm here also, and humid. Won’t have many more days like this from now on.

The thunderstorm was very short lived, everyone is back outside enjoying the nice weather.

Beautiful colors ~ the big one on the bottom has more blue than mint coloring? When we had a blue egg layer her eggs were the prettiest light blue when collected from the nest but after a day sitting in the egg skelter the blue oxidized to a blue-mint. I thought I was imagining color difference but we compared her fresh-layed egg to her skelter egg & it definitely had oxidized from baby blue to blue-mint. We never refrigerated eggs cuz we used them up fast, so I don't know if refrigeration would've kept the blue color integrity?
Not sure with mine, I do refrigerate mine, but I haven’t really paid too much attention to the colour changing, other than with the age of the hen, and if she had been laying a long while. All the eggs get lighter in colour.

He is looking very handsome!

How is the new guy doing? I see he got a human ride. 🥰
He's hiding in the smaller run extension after he pecked one of Morinth's kids and she beat the stuffin out of him. I put him out in the main run, he gets yelled at by the she-devil and runs to the extension. They'll figure it out in time.
The meatbirds and the newest hens keep checking on him and encouraging him to eat and drink with them so he's not all alone. He could honestly be in the bachelor group I think, they would accept him.
Ric Flair told him which girls are off limits, but otherwise seems to like him well enough. Versace is quite a bit bigger than he is so I hope that helps them get along like it did between Ric Flair and Trickster (who has himself a lovely group of sebright hens now!)
New girls Cookie and Cream, as well as Liara seem to really like him. I told him when he settles in maybe the fullsize hens will be his wives.
Will go get pictures in a bit.

Here’s the first dozen of eggs, which the new hens have laid! I feel proud of them. Attachment.jpeg
