We burn a lot of wood. Since we're not as young as we used to be and splitting with an axe or a sledge and a wedge is hard on the body, we do most splitting with a 40 ton wood splitter. It'll handle anything hubby can get into position to split, and any of the woods we have. Oak and maple are easy. Get 'em started and they pop open. Walnut, on the other hand, is stringy and fights you all the way down. The wood splitter just muscles on through it.

So pretty!
I don’t use much wood - and I split with a star wedge and sledgehammer. I got myself a hydraulic splitter but i haven’t found it to be that good. Probably need a powered one.

I have now seen every single thing. Early morning, Coco is enjoying my leftover tofu with noodles. I do realize that I might lose her within a few years. She has to go flying with me today. Situation imperative!
Tofu???
I know we all encourage you to eat healthier - but tofu is a bit extreme!

I love wood heat. The work to get the wood....not so much. (time in the woods is nice, though).

This house was designed with the wood in mind. It had a brick wood bin built into it next to the stove....and an exterior hatch to fill it from so no tracking across the house to pack it in. Do still need to fill the wood bin as part of winter prep....and the kindling stash (from the brush pile from the dead trees).

Whiskey (yes @featherhead007 he's on one foot, but it's blurred, indicating motion so doesn't count for the 1 foot thing)

Such a beautiful roo

My dad uses a wood boiler so we're already splitting and stacking. His back is bad though, hubby wants them to switch to pellets or propane. I told him that it's very likely we'll be walking next door to fill the stove on bad days for them.
Cleaned both coops, Ash got in the way and ended up covered in poopy woodchips that I was tossing out of the door. Oops.

Those pellet bbqs are a great idea and easy for people who are on in age. My friends have them, and even my church has one.
