thank you to whoever said that tomatoes work well for mice. I caught a mouse in the only trap with tomatoes on the first night. we have around 5 others with in 5 or so feet of it and the one with tomatoes was one of the harder ones for a mouse to get to
My DH has used both cherry tomatoes & cutup Roma tomatoes as bait ~ as well as sweet grape varieties. For some reason they eat the fresh produce better than nuts, seeds, peanut butter or meat. We found evidence of nibbled cucumber still on the vine as well!

Princess laid another egg about an hour ago, so I gave it to her back. She mainly ate the yoke.
So luckily yesterday as i was getting supplies I came across some small pomegranates. Princess really enjoyed her share in the garden as did my dog...Who I might add is fartng for the UK right now

Princess enjoyed the yolk ~ & my chickens go for the white 1st.

You said the magic word ~ Pomagranate!

I had to post this video again:

Today the chicks are officially 4 months old. Well, today leading into tomorrow for everyone.

George, oh Georgie boy is mid-juvenile molt right now and is channeling his father at the moment. Overnight he lost most of his tail feathers and only has 4 left. I expect the remaining 4 to be lost today or tomorrow.

whatever hairdo you want to call this, he is rocking it though.
DSCN3913.JPG

He also wants to let his daddy Mr. P he should be proud of him. He is the leader of his own gang of silkies like him.

My only for sure silkie pullet, the rest are now very questionable.

If the majority of these are boys like I fear, I will have multiple roosters for a while. I will have to choose 1 or maybe 2 to stay. But which one. Right now I can make a case for every single one to stay if they are boys dang it. I do know first thing I am going to do if I have multiple boys like I suspect is contact my cousin who has "Tiger Chicken". When I do I need to have my keeper for sure picked. I am going to tell her to bring her grandson and let him pick out a boyfriend for her.

Don't forget Owly. That little lady was 11 months when she laid her first egg. Poppet was what? 9 or 10 months old when she laid her first. I know it felt like forever waiting on that silkie egg.
Wait a minute, is there more to chickens than just feathered pets?
They can supply us with food? Wow, I did not know that. Seems I have a lot to learn 🤦‍♂️

Spectacular!

From @Pastel the Rooster :
Hi FBA! It’s Pastel the Rooster. I’ve missed you all so much. I wish I could still be on there to talk to you guys. Thank you Notabitail for posting this for me!
I hope everything is going well with your lives. There’s been some changes to my life.
First, Auggie the Welsh pony is doing very well. I’m going to start doing barrels with him. Dad actually is letting me! I think it will be fun, as Auggie knows the pattern and loves it.
Pippa the Shetland that I rode for 6 years passed away due to colic. She passed back in July. It sucked.

I am doing very well in school! I have a 100, a 99, an 89, and a 96! We are already 10 weeks in, so I think I am going to get all A’s this semester hopefully! Of course, I don’t have math until next semester 😒.

Pastel (not me, the actual rooster) passed away. He got too aggressive so I took him to my mom’s work. We put him in with pigs, but he jumped the fence to frolic with broiler roos and was at the wrong place at the wrong time. I brought home another rooster, but he was attacking Bolt, so he had to go. He’s at my best friend’s house now.
I brought home a lavender Orpington hen a few months back. She is very sweet. Her name is Amethyst!
Splotch, BBQ, and Bolt are officially 3! Bolt and BBQ turned three on the 8th of Oct, and Splotch turned three on the 14th of Sept.

Willow went broody again over the summer and got 7 more chicks. Silver Laced Wyandottes! One is a rooster, but the rest are hens. She did such a great job taking care of them. I got them because TSC was about to destroy them because they were two weeks old. Willow didn’t care and she took them in. They don’t have names yet.

Pegasus, Pastel’s son (with Bolt) is so big! He is still dark blue, but he has bronze hackle feathers, and a few bronze saddle/shoulder feathers. He is nice so far.

The Polish are doing well! They started laying eggs! Aphrodite (exchequer leghorn) is doing very well! She is more docile than I thought, though she is flighty. Her eggs are so cute!
Nyx passed away in June. Of course, it had to be the favorite polish. She broke her neck while flying to a perch I think.
Athens is such a sweet rooster. He is my second favorite chook (Bolt first!) Nemesis has an attitude sometimes. But I don’t let him get away with it. He doesn’t attack me very often anymore.

Guineas are doing well. Ridges (the favorite Guinea) passed away in June too. She got coccidiosis again. I took her and her special needs son, Ditzy, who also had it, to the vet. Ditz got better but Ridges passed away.
I have six guineas now.

I think I have 26 chooks now though!

Anyways, I miss you all so much! I hope everyone is doing amazing! Thank you all for the kindness you showed me while I was on BYC. ❤️
@Ponypoor and @RebeccaBoyd, if you have any good barrel saddle brands in mind, could you please share it with Notabitail! Thank you and I hope all the chooks and horses are doing well!

All replies to this message will be forwarded to Pastel.
Hello Pastel! Great to hear from you and very happy to hear you are doing well in school this year - keep up the good work!

I love all your new chooks they are wonderful, and of course you know I love the babies.

Very happy to hear you and your pony are doing well together, as for a barrel racing saddle, for any gaming I just used my general purpose English saddle, or my western pleasure western saddle (though mostly the English saddle). I am not sure of the rules where you are participating but if allowed you should look into getting an Aussie saddle - they are super comfy and have the added benefit of the leg/thigh fenders to help keep you in the seat hahaha 😉

Hope to hear more on you fur and feathered friends have an awesome day!

Here are 2 of my silkie babies from this year

Yesterday sure was a day...

Around 10am I just came back outside from feeding my cat, literally just opened the door and stepped into the garage, and my dad said "Holy ****, what was that?!"

Apparently I had JUST missed a really loud chicken squawk. We both stepped outside and saw a hawk land in a tree and then take off again. Aliss was hiding under the smoker, panting a little, so I got her out and held her. She was stressed out but fine, no injuries.

Then we noticed that the other 4 girls weren't there. So right away, I'm walking around with Aliss in my arms calling for the girls and they are exactly nowhere. Looked around the property for them for probably 20 minutes and then put Aliss in the run.

Over the next few hours I searched for them on and off, around the yard, in the woods, under the deck, under brush piles, everywhere, and I couldn't find them. Dad was looking too, we were both really worried, and we even walked down the road a little bit and met a neighbor getting her mail to ask if she'd seen them. We started talking a little bit about what to do with Aliss if they didn't come back.

After 5 hours of worrying and searching we're sitting in the garage. I think I see something brown out of the corner of my eye but when I turn to look there's nothing so I go back to whatever I was doing on my phone. 10 seconds later my dad says "Welcome back, girls!"

They all just walked up the driveway like everything was normal and nothing happened. I was so relieved I almost cried, LOL!

I wonder what type of adventure they got themselves into out there? They better not do it again! :rant:he
Holy Dinah! Wow! Good girls they ran and hid. ♥️

Hahaha yup he is like his Dada - wild hairdo and funky tail 😊 all he needs is the Blue-Kote spray for some accent colour 😉

Those silkies sure are cute, 9th photo down (8th up) I would say the one directly in front of George is a pullet, the rest cockerels.
