Hello Everyone! The majority of my 26 chickens have dry fowl pox. I read that there is no treatment but my dad once had a chicken with it and he healed it by rubbing raw tomato on the wounds and she healed... I am going to try that but is there a specific medicine I could by from a feed store or somewhere else? I know that it is transmitted through mosquitos and I saw many on the walls of the coop at night before I cleaned the chicken coop. I cleaned it out and there are no mosquitos and it rained... I didn't empty out anything that had water in it so mosquitos probably laid there eggs in the water! I emptied any water out today. All of my babies are acting just fine still doing everything they usually do! I did notice that our silkie hen has a small wart underneath her eye! Do you know how I might be able to help her with that wart? :bow
😢

Are you in a southern or tropical area? Since fowl pox is a virus, not much will treat it. It has to run it’s course over about a month. Some still may paint Betadine or povidone iodine on the scabs to help dry them up. Messing with scabs can spread the virus however. I would put a dab of Terramycin eye ointment or plain Neosporin into the eye of the one with the scab near the eye, twice a day. Fallen scabs can remain powdery and infectious for months afterward. There is a fowl pox vaccine available for chickens who have not yet been stung by mosquitoes. Some chickens can get the wet version of pox, and that can cause yellow patches inside the beak and throat. That type is more deadly. Here are two good articles about fowl pox:

Hello @Eggcessive and @dawg53 and thank you! @Eggcessive we live in Texas. I will try the Neosporin and Teramycin... do you know where I could get that? It seems that almost all of them have been infected and I will try to get them healed! @dawg53, we have huge vents covered in medium thick window screen and then chicken wire. I think the mosquitos were getting in through the door. Is there some type of mosquito repellent that would be safe for the coop? Thanks for all of y'alls help! :D

Neosporin or Triple Antibiotic Ointment are found in drugs stores and grocery stores in the first aid aisle. Terramycin is found in some feed stores, and your vet may also sell you some. Permethrin spray can be safely used in chicken coops once a month. It can be toxic to bees if you raise any.

Thank you so much Eggcessive!!! ☺️
