Garden in the Desert Hatch-Along

Day 4 updates! Marigold, Cactus, and Salvia made a big jump in development!

I've been a day behind, so now to fix that. This is tonight, which is Day 5. Marigold continues to do great, with the embryo more defined. Salvia now has an eye AND an embryo, with plenty of blood vessels. 26 shows several large blood vessels, but no embryo spot yet. Cactus is about the same as #26, with definite activity, but no embryo spot yet. Optunia is growing more red, but no real details yet.

Egg 22 - Maybe a little darker? Keeping an eye on this one.

Day 6 updates!

Marigold is into all sorts of trouble in that egg. Wow, is that embryo active! Salvia's embryo is getting bigger, with more blood vessels. Cactus and Agave have a good network of blood vessels, but no defined embryo spot, although I have a few suspicions. Vera and Optunia seemed to have slowed, if not stopped. I reposition the eggs location in the incubator each day, so maybe a new spot will help them along.

Day 7! Wow, the time is flying fast!

Vera isn't showing any progress. The egg will stay in the incubator until day 10, and then I'll make the decision to pull it or not. With Optunia it's hard to tell. Seems to be getting darker red? Again, we'll wait until day 10.

Meanwhile, Marigold is leading the pack on development! So much bigger, more blood vessels, and so so much movement! I took a short video that I hope to upload to YouTube sometime this coming week.

Salvia isn't that far behind. Much bigger and more active.

Acacia's embryo is now visible, and I'm pretty sure I saw it move a few times while candling. Same with Cactus! Agave is smaller than the rest, but there is definitely a small embryo in there that wasn't as obvious as last night.

Right now, out of the 7, I say we have 5 strong eggs, one potentially slow, and one early quitter.

Day 8 candling results: Acacia, Salvia, and Agave are doing well! Good sized eye and definite movement. Cactus now has a small eye and I'm pretty sure I saw the embryo moving. Marigold continues to lead them all! Definitely the most far along.

Vera and Optunia don't show any sign of growth, with Vera looking like it stopped growth between the 48 to 72 hour mark. On day 10 I plan to pull them if the lack of growth continues.
