Good Neighbor Skills 101...Failed!!

Wow, I do not know what I would have done in that situation. I think you did the best you could in a bad spot!

I once had a neighbor (she is still my neighbor) chase my cat, under my deck ,on my property, with a baseball bat! When I went out there I calmly asked her what the h*** she was doing. She then explained that her children had been watching this nest of baby birds from eggs and my cat had one. I basically told her that her kids got a good lesson in biology, the food chain, and the animal kingdom. I stopped the story when I noticed the baby bird hopping around my yard behind her. I asked "is that the bird you are talking about behind you?. She then felt a little foolish and took off shooing the baby bird towards her property. But to go after my cat with a bat.........people are crazy!

Hi, Buster

Me either, man

I think it was a case of..."some brown dog chased her cat on her bad day and my boy happened to walked by with his brown dog"...or something like that.

Hi arlee453

I'm no expert in mental health but that is a good point. At least the neighbors who heard and came out really don't know much about her. And I didn't exactly go around knocking on her neighbors doors to tell them what had happened...
But I made a conscious decision of not calling police but called her pastor instead when I found out my neighbor goes to her churce

I thought of flowers because that would make me a little at easy if I were mourning. But since it wasn't a case we decided to give her space.
I don't know she thought her cat was killed or I heard it wrong. But I agree that she does need some help and now she is getting one and hopefully it's enough

Thanks.

Hello seminolewind,

Yes I agree. When I talked to her pastor who he said he has known her and knew her late husband many many years he said he will make sure she is taken care of.
Of course he didn't discuss his plan with me and I didn't ask but told me she will get regular visits from church members. And I see cars in her driveway often since then. Am I nosy or what... But I couldn't help it.

Hi there UP_Chicken_Lover

Rude people and crazy people come pretty close to popularity contest in my book. And yes they are everywhere.
We have lived in 4 different countries, metoropolitan cities and suburbs. And I grew up in what most people call the countryside.
And yes, they are EVERYWHERE but we learn to laugh about it in most cases and try not to get influenced

Moving to the country permanently has been DH and my dream, but it's not because of getting away from that. Then again, what I think of countryside is probably your idea of suburbs...

Love to see your area and your puppy

umm... really, I don't think you were a bad neighbor, or thinking irrationally...she is INSANE, and essentially LIED. I'd have drop-kicked her if she'd come near my house with SHEARS, they can do some serious damage! Imagine if she'd actually been insane, and attacked you!

Quote:
Our neighbor poisoned our cat, and lied to us saying that he saw someone take it away... we found her under his deck about a month later, next to an empty thing of rat poison. The old man who poisoned her, died this year... thank god -_- he was creepy, unfriendly, and VERY sexist, he used to say things to my mum when she was using our powertools, that were VERY sexist.

Hi, Beekissed

I don't make excuses for people who are rude or unreasonable, old or young they may be.
But I want to handle them in a way that I wouldn't be embarrased to be seen, let's say, by my children.
And of course I do not torelate others come to harm my family in any way, but that's besides the point here.
I'd like to think I know how to choose my actions based on the legitimate reasons not retaliation.
Anyways, I'm glad that you get me

Hi, Crunchie

I don't think I'm a bad neighbor either!
smile.png

All of moves we have done (DH is in AF), if there is one thing we've learned, it would be how to be a good neighbor. Good neighbors can be the ones who invite you over for BBQ parties, or those invisible ones that you don't really know if they are really there or not.

We have had pretty good track record till....

So I kinda wanted to put it out there to see other people's perspectives of it. And it's been very interesting I appriciate every one of the people who took time. And I must say everyone had a good point or two,,or three.

I found out my neighbor goes to her church so I went ahead and contacted her pastor. I think he is contacting her family members.
I don't think I'll find out any more about her unless I try to. (which I decided to leave it alone for now)

Edit to add: oh, about that lady who likes law suits...that's a whole another story! I'm not really worry about her. I'm about the only one who says hello to her

Hello LinckHillPoultry

I wish I could have closed the door sooner
roll.png

Well, what I really wish was that my children didn't have to hear me yelling like that.
I'd like to limit the yelling they hear from me to be only the ones directed at them

Yea, I've lived long enough to know this world is far from perfect. I just don't see a good reason to contribute to its imperfection..sorta speak

While I don't tolerate people trying to harm my family in any way, I don't condone an eye for an eye mentality.
It's just me, now, though. It may have been a completely different story if the lady did manage to snip my dog in half...

Like I said and you said, our world is not perfect...
