Hatchery with the "Best" Saipan Jungle Fowl?? PLEASE READ!!

I have noticed that Stromberg's, which carried Saipan Jungle Fowl in its 2011 catalog, does not have them in the 2012. I've started a list of hatcheries offering Saipans on my blog. So far I have: Cackle hatchery, Ideal, Purely Poultry and Double R Country Store. (The list is at http://insellyr.blogspot.com/p/saipan-jungle-fowl-hatcheries-and.html, if you are curious.)

If anyone knows of other hatcheries or breeders, please let me know.

I bought 10 from Cackle Hatchery last Summer.

I discovered the man that we were getting them from in Saipan had passed away. So that avenue is out for us.

But as I really still wanted some I bought some hatchery ones.

They were weak when they arrived as were all of the chicks. Most the Sapians passed away in a couple of weeks. The remaining two never thrived and died by a couple months of age. I raised them with ones, the same age, that I incubated myself. My hatches thrived so I know it was due to no fault of my own.

Only about three of the chicks I ordered made it to four months of age. They were small and weak and eventually died as well.

I lost all 25 chicks between three breeds.

I am looking to get some more this Summer. I had one I hatched out from an egg and he had a great personality and was beautiful A pack of wolves invaded my coop and stole 11 full sized chickens in one night. Unfortunately he was one of them.

So I am open to suggestions on where to get some more but I will not order form Cackle again.
It's weird. Last year we ordered Saipans from Ideal and they were SO hardy. This year, we've lost an inordinate number of the Saipans we ordered from Ideal. Not sure what the deal was. Some look kinda stoned all the time (sleepy?) and not as active as the last batch was and we just find them dead in the morning. We ordered extra the second time this year, just to make sure we get a good amount of solid chicks and so far, the second batch has been better. We also got Shamo and Thai Games from Ideal, for the first time. The Shamo were kinda iffy, too, on the first go round, so we're hoping these guys are stronger. :)

Yeah, mine were weak right off the bat. They seemed to do better and some just sort of started dropping off. The couple that made it to an older age were tiny and weak and they too just died.

I hatched out some others from a private breeder and the two I actually got to hatch did very well but were picked off by predators.

I lost one in the shell about an hour ago. It was pipping and cheeping. Seemed like it was doing well. Then it got quiet. I put in a peek hole and saw it drowning. I tried to save it and got most the water out of it's mouth and put it back into the incubator to rest partially hatched. It was breathing and doing better but it still died about half an hour later.

I must have had the humidity too high through the night. Poor baby.

My other 5 are resting in my brooder and doing very well so far. So I am hoping my final egg will hatch and I will have 6 to try and start a new flock with.

One of these days I will find some good-quality Saipan eggs to hatch to add some extra quality to my hatchery Saipan flock. I periodically check eBay but have seen no other non-hatchery eggs or chicks to be had lately. :(

Cajunboy is the seller I got mine from.

His aviary is Acadiana Aviaries.

If you look up his website, I believe you can get hatching eggs that way. I bet if you messaged him through one of his other auctions, he would set up a new Saipan auction.

They are definitely a challenge to find through private breeders but such fascinating and intelligent birds.
